Ring Announcer: Justin Roberts
Tomorrow night is the big dance, Unforgiven. A joint ppv production that features both Raw and Smackdown stars. Still, for the dregs of Smackdown, we still have one more show to go first. Tonight's Velocity was recorded before Smackdown but like I mentioned on the Smackdown write up, you can see the guys that worked Velocity as The Undertaker walks down the hall. Let's get to the action.
Match 1
Billy Kidman vs Tajiri
Opening up with some Cruiserweight action with Kidman taking on Tajiri. They tie up to start and Kidman drops Tajiri with a shoulderblock. Billy hits a headscissors and Tajiri bails to the outside. Kidman follows but Tajiri kicks him in the ribs then throwing him into the barricade. Back inside Tajiri covers for 1...2..no. Tajiri stomps away at Kidman and locks in an arm-ringer. Naturally Cole and Lloyd start babbling about The Undertaker and Brock Lensar. Kidman arm-drags Tajiri but Tajiri goes back to the arm-bar. Tajiri gets Kidman on his stomach as Lloyd and Cole haven't shut up for two whole minutes. Kidman snap mares Tajiri but runs into a Tajiri kick. Kidman counters with a dropkick and kicks at Tajiri. Billy ducks the buzz kick and hits the enziguiri. Kidman covers for a deuce as now Cole is babbling about Billy & Chuck. Tajiri kicks Kidman in the head and covers for 1...2...no. Tajiri goes for the powerbomb but Kidman counters with an X-Facor. He covers for 1..2....no. Tajiri misses another buzz kick and Kidman hits a second rope bulldog. Billy goes for the Seven Year Itch but misses. Tajiri hits the buzz kick and covers for 1...2...no. Kidman goes for something but his arm gives out, allowing Tajiri to hit a second buzz kick. This time the cover gets 1...2...3 to win the match. About time Tajiri wins a match and it was a logical story to boot.
Time of match: 4:58
Winner: Tajiri by pinfall
We don't have recaps on this version of the show. On to the next match.
Match 2
Albert vs Funaki
This is a rematch from last week where Albert beat Funaki and attacked him after the bell. But wait there's more! Funaki has a mic and says he's SMACKDOWN NUMBA WUN ANNOUNCA. He says last week he told him to shave his back and the crowd starts chanting it. Funaki agrees that Albert is one hairy bully. Dorkus Malorkus asks why he'd make Albert more mad than he already is. Bell rings and Albert just laughs at him. Funaki ducks the line and goes for a headlock only to eat a shoulderblock. He shouts "THIS IS CRAP" but misses a falling headbutt. Funaki hits a dropkick and Albert heaves the cover attempt off. Funaki hits a bulldog but runs right into a powerslam. Albert covers for a deuce and drops a few elbows to the small of the back. The announcers start babbling about Kurt Angle and Chris Benoit as Albert locks in a chinlock. Albert stops to shout at the crowd for the "shave your back" chant. Albert hits hits the overhead back breaker and covers for 1..2...no. Albert throws Funaki in the corner and beats him with forearms, choking with his boot twice. Albert whips Funaki into the buckle and laughs at him. Albert drops Funaki with a headbutt and calls for the Baldo Bomb. Funaki grabs the chest hair to escape but Albert whips him into the corner again. Albert charges but eats boot and Funaki jumps right into a bearhug. Funaki grabs the back hair to sunset flip but Albert doesn't budge. Funaki kicks Albert off the buckle and high school style trips Albert, hooking the leg for 1...2...3 to win the match. Creative way to end the match and Funaki shocks Albert. Cole "Earth to Albert, finish your opponent when you can. You can't give a veteran like Funaki an opening like he did." That was a fun big man vs little man match with Funaki using cat and mouse tactics to win.
Time of match: 5:37
Winner: Funaki by pinfall
Post-match Albert wipes out Funaki again and goes to leave....then sees Funaki getting up. Albert goes to get back in the ring but Funaki baseball slides him. He goes for the plancha but Albert catches him in mid-air and rams Funaki back first twice into the ring post. At some point Albert has to win consistently to be taken seriously, losing to Funaki on Velocity doesn't help.
Earlier today we go to a much healthier looking Funaki interviewing Crash Holly. He asks if he's confident about beating Hurricane at Velocity. Crash says he himself is damn near unstoppable and who could beat him. Funaki "Hurricane." Crash is visibly upset and starts to Hulk up as Funaki signs off. Hahahahaha, on to the next match.
Match 3
The Hurricane vs Crash Holly
Michael Cole gives Lloyd shit for not being as straightforward like Funaki then says Hurricane had a great match with Matt Hardy on Smackdown (true). They shake hands to start and Hurricane starts with a waistlock. They chain wrestle for a pop but Hurricane gets the advantage with a hiptoss. Hurricane scoop slams Crash and Holly bails to the outside. Hurricane grabs Crash back to the apron and hits him with a forearm. Crash snaps Hurricane off the top rope and rolls him up for 1...2...no. Cole says Shannon Moore and Hurricane have no idea what's gotten into Matt Hardy and Cole says its Mattitude. Crash scoop slams Hurricane and covers for 1...2..no. Crash locks in an abdominal stretch as Scotty Two Hotty will be at The World for Unforgiven. Referee Mike Sparks catches Crash holding the rope and makes him break it. Crash then locks it in the middle of the ring and Hurricane starts to power out of it. Crash throws him down but a charge in the corner eats boot. Hurricane hits the second rope blockbuster as now the announcers babble on about Edge and Eddie Guerrero. Hurricane punches away at Crash and hits a flying forearm. Hurricane rallies with a clothesline and a reverse neckbreaker, covering for 1...2..no. Hurricane's suplex his blocked and Crash goes for the Flair pin for 1...2...no. Crash sets Hurricane on the top rope and Hurricane shoves hum off. Hurricane hits the top rope crossbody for 1..2....noooooo. Hurricane goes for the chokeslam but Crash hits a Peterson Roll for 1...2...no. Hurricane's Eye is blocked but so is the O'Connor Roll attempt by Crash. Hurricane hits the shining wizard and covers for 1....2...3 to win the match. Good showing by both guys.
Time of match: 5:39
Winner: Hurricane by pinfall
Since there's no recaps, its on to our final match.
Match 4
Shannon Moore vs Randy Orton
Lloyd calls this a battle of rookies....are you kidding me? Moore is no rookie, he'd been wrestling since he was 16 just like Jeff Hardy. Dorkus Malorkus calls our ring announcer JASON Roberts although its nice to see Justin get his start. He'd be eventually known for his iconic John Cena introduction. Cole asks where Tony Chimel is as the bell rings. Orton gets a headlock takeover but Moore reverses him, allowing both men to shake hands. Orton gets in a hammerlock and Moore does a standing backflip, armdrag and spinning heel kick. Moore covers for 1...2...no as Cole tries to babble on about Unforgiven. Moore runs right into snake eyes and Orton goes to the top rope. Orton hits the top rope crossbody but Moore rolls through for 1...2...nooooo. Orton hits a big lariat and stomps away at Moore when Lloyd starts babbling about Brock Lesnar and Undertaker out of nowhere. Orton rams Moore shoulder first into the buckle and flips him by the arm. Orton continues to work over the left arm as Cole won't shut up about Lesnar/Taker. Again, its Vince in their ears but it doesn't make it any less annoying. Orton goes for the DDT but Moore blocks it by grabbing the top rope. Moore hits a dropkick and hits a rolling neckbreaker, covering for 1...2...no. Moore hits the second rope moonsault, covering for a deuce before Shannon forearms him. Orton hits the quick powerslam for 1....2...no. Orton sets Moore up on the top rope but Shannon knocks Randy off. Shannon hits the halo for 1...2...noooo. Orton hits the O-Zone and covers for 1...2....3 to win the match. Sudden death ending right there, must have been out of time. Either way, good showing for what it was. Fun fact, this would be the last time Orton would be on Smackdown/Velocity for another three years as he was Raw bound.
Time of match: 5:36
Winner: Orton by pinfall
Damn good Velocity in terms of in ring action. The guys did the best they could with 5 minutes to work with and not much else you can ask for with the same guys rotating on who they face. Still, the name of the game is to promote Smackdown and the upcoming ppv and they did it. No more house shows, its time for Unforgiven....sort of. As usual, there's always the pre-show which will be tomorrow night's edition of Sunday Night Heat. I'll see you there.
