WWE at Sioux Falls Arena (9/6/02)

Sioux Falls Arena
Sioux Falls, SD
September 6, 2002

The stars of Raw ended up in South Dakota of all places for a Friday night house show. Intercontinental champion Rob Van Dam is the defacto number one contender to the new World Heavyweight Champion Triple H. Let's see how these house show circuit matches play out over the next few days.

Match 1

Johnny Stamboli vs Spike Dudley

A little WCW vs ECW to start the show with Stamboli taking on little Spike. Dudley wins it with the Acid Drop.

Winner: Dudley by pinfall

Match 2

Justin Credible vs Shelton Benjamin

OVW's best athlete Shelton Benjamin takes on ECW alumni Justin Credible. Credible reversed a cross body to get the pin.

Winner: Credible by pinfall

Match 3

D-Lo Brown vs Raven

The big rematch from Heat where D-Lo won. This time Raven takes it with the Evenflow.

Winner: Raven by pinfall

Match 4

Christopher Nowinski (with William Regal) vs Bradshaw

Regal was in the corner of Nowinski until he was given the heave ho. Bradshaw wins it with the clothesline from hell.

Winner: Bradshaw by pinfall

Match 5

Big Show vs Rob Van Dam for the WWE Intercontinental Championship in a No Holds Barred Match

Same match from last week's circuit with Rob defending against Big Show. Rob hit the Van Daminator and 5 Star to retain.

Winner: Rob Van Dam by pinfall (still IC champ)

Match 6

Jaqueline vs Molly Holly for the WWE Women's Championship

Stacy Keibler was the guest announcer and Victoria was the guest referee. Naturally Holly wins with the Flair Pin

Winner: Holly by pinfall

Match 7

Steven Richards vs Tommy Dreamer

The ECW guys go at it in a standard match. Dreamer wins it with the Dreamer Driver.

Winner: Dreamer by pinfall

Match 8

Bubba Ray Dudley and Goldust vs Christian and Lance Storm for the WWE Tag Team Championship in a 2 out of 3 Falls Match

What? Bubba and Goldust? Apparently Booker T was out sick or nursing an injury so Bubba took his place for this old school match.  Storm pinned Bubba after a superkick and Christian holding Bubba's leg for the first fall. Goldust hit the Curtain Call and pinned Christian for the second fall then William Regal interfered to hit Goldust with brass knuckles. Christian got the pin to retain.

Winners: Storm and Christian (Still Tag Team Champions)

Match 9

Triple H vs Brock Lesnar for the WWE Championship

Talk about a house show treat. These two met in a triple threat match at Global Warning in Australia but they went one on one here. The World Heavyweight Championship was not on the line so HHH had nothing to lose. Lesnar still won with the F-5 to retain. Now THAT'S a main event.

Winner: Lesnar by pinfall (still WWE Champion)

Standard card but that main event would eventually be a ppv match years into the future. Still, Raw had a serious lack of star power as they had HHH and not much else. Rob Van Dam, Booker T and others were just mid-carders while Chris Jericho and Big Show got depushed big time. Still, HHH vs Brock Lesnar in South Dakota would have been fun to see. Tomorrow we got a double shot with both brands having house shows. Smackdown comes to you live from the MCI Center in Washington, DC. I'll see you there.
