WWF at Madison Square Garden (1-17-94) Incomplete

After in essence a month of hype, it is now time for one of the most famous house shows in WWF history, The New York Rumble! This card was hyped up for a month to have a double main event of Tatanka taking on Yokozuna for the WWF Championship and a 30 man Royal Rumble as a preview of what was coming the following Saturday night in Providence. Also on the card was newcomer Jeff Jarrett taking on Razor Ramon for the Intercontinental Championship. Then came the extra added bonus a week before this show. Marty Jannetty and 123 Kid upset The Quebecers for the WWF Tag Team Championship on Raw and the rematch for the belts was scheduled for tonight. With the Royal Rumble this coming Saturday night and a month's worth of hype, let's get the party started with the New York Rumble.

NEW YORK RUMBLE
MADISON SQUARE GARDEN
NEW YORK CITY
JANUARY 17 1994

Match 1

Scott Putski (with Ivan Putski) vs "Iron" Mike Sharpe

Even though this is the first match on the card, it was never recorded. Guess whoever recorded this show got stuck in traffic and missed it. Putski got the win.

Winner: Putski

Match 2

Ludvig Borga vs Rick Steiner

The fallout from Survivor Series continued as All American Steiner battled Foreign Fanatic Borga here. A huge USA chant breaks out as the bell rings and Borga stalls to taunt the crowd.  The two men circle each other for more stalling until Steiner gets in a headlock. Borga counters with a back suplex and Steiner bails to the outside. Back inside Borga gets a headlock but Steiner counters with a back suplex of his own. Steiner goes upstairs and nails Borga with the top rope bulldog and covers for a 1 count. Steiner locks in an armbar but Borga grabs the tope to break. Borga drives Steiner into the corners with a few knees before whipping him across. Rick counters with the Steinerline for a deuce but Ludvig recovers and nails Steiner with an uppercut to the ribs. Borga continuously drops Rick with right hands to the face before headbutting him into the corner. Borga whips Steiner and nails a lariat of his own. Borga goes upstairs and drops Rick with a top rope clothesline, but Rick kicks out of the pinfall attempt at 2. Borga runs into a powerslam by Rick but Borga kicks out of the cover at 2. Rick locks in an armbar before sending Ludvig off and dropping him with an elbow. Rick drops an elbow and covers for a two count before hitting another Steinerline. A cover gets two and Rick locks in another armbar. Ludvig ducks under another Steinerline attempt and nails Rick with a lariat of his own. Ludvig puts his feet on the ropes on the cover attempt and the alert referee Tim White catches him. Borga punches Rick to the outside and goes outside to brawl with him. Steiner clobbers Ludvig with a chair as White completes the count to end the match. Howard Finkel gets in the ring and says the match is a double count-out. Borga bodyslams Rick on the floor after the bell but Rick gets in a low blow. They brawl to the back and Borga visibly slips during it. That slip ended up causing this to be Borga's last singles match in the company in the midst of his big push due to the ankle injury he suffered and quitting shortly after. Bye bye Borga!

Time of Match: 7:07

Winner: No one (double count-out)

Fink hits the ring and tells the crowd to go buy the program in the concession stands where Mo & Mabel of Men on a Mission is featured on the cover.

Match 3

"Double J" Jeff Jarrett vs Razor Ramon for the WWF Intercontinental Championship

Jeff comes out in the purple male stripper outfit while Razor comes out in the purple trunks. Razor was headed toward an IC title showdown with IRS this coming Saturday so they had him meet the newcomer Jeff here for the MSG house show. For weeks on Face To Face Razor had claimed he was undefeated at MSG so he puts his streak and the title on the line. Razor sticks a finger in Jarrett's face and says he's gonna throw him over the top rope. They lock up and Razor shoves Jarrett on his ass much to the crowd's delight. Razor does it again and Jarrett bails outside to stall and nearly gets counted out. Jarrett grabs Razor, pulls him outside, dumps him on retaining barrier and sends him into the stairs. Jarrett sends Ramon into the ringpost before throwing him back in the ring. Jarrett puts the boots to Razor before nailing Razor with a second rope fistdrop. A cover gets a deuce and Jarrett sends Razor off the buckle into a snapmare. Jeff locks in a chinlock before Razor eventually gets up and arm drags Jeff. Razor puts his head down and Jarrett slams it to the mat. Jeff chokes Ramon on the second rope and lands a dropkick. A cover gets a two count and Jeff yells at referee Earl Hebner to count faster. Razor rolls up Jarrett for a surprise two count before Jeff goes back to work on him. Jeff lands a punch off the top rope, goes to the opposite corner and lands another top rope punch. Jeff goes to the top rope but this time Razor counters with a punch to the ribs. Razor sends Jeff off but once again Razor puts his head down, eating boot as a result. Jeff locks in a sleeperhold but eventually Razor powers out of it. Jeff goes for a hiptoss but Razor counters with a chokeslam. Razor covers but Jeff kicks out at two. Razor rallies with right hands that drops Jeff until he begs off. Razor sends Jeff off but misses the clothesline. Jeff goes for a bodypress but Razor ducks and Jeff cleans out Earl Hebner. Razor goes for the Razor's Edge but Shawn Michaels runs out to stop him. Razor punches Shawn off the apron and nails Jeff with the Razor's Edge. Razor covers but Shawn pulls him out of the ring, earning a DQ from the awake Hebner. Razor keeps the title and the streak as Shawn helps Jarrett up in the ring. Jeff and Shawn celebrate until Razor gets in the ring with the belt and chases them out of the ring. Fink announces Razor the winner and his music hits with Jeff and Shawn teasing a run-in. Razor chases them away with the belt and puts it on. Good match and it was a nice sneak preview of their epic IC title match a year later at the Royal Rumble.

Time of Match: 12:29

Winner: Razor Ramon by disqualification.

Fink gets in the mic and promotes Wrestling Challenge on Fox 5 before Harvey Whippleman comes out to yell at him. The crowd boos Harvey as he calls Fink and the crowd losers. Harvey calls Lawrence Taylor and the Giants losers. Harvey runs down New York City and puts over Memphis, Tennessee. Harvey says Adam Bomb will win the New York Rumble later. Harvey then rants and raves about how awesome Bomb is until Fink cuts him off and says to go fill a parking meter because his time has run out. The crowd cheers Fink and Harvey is forced out of the ring by Tony Garea and Dave Hebner. Harvey pushes Tony and Garea shoves him back. Harvey retreats and Fink says its time for the main event.

Match 4

Tatanka vs Yokozuna (with Mr. Fuji) for the WWF Heavyweight Championship

With Yokozuna locked in to the main event of the Royal Rumble this coming Saturday, Tatanka is the sacrificial lamb for Yoko tonight in the Garden. For continuity purposes, it was Yokozuna and Ludvig Borga that knocked Tatanka out of Survivor Series and Tatanka had a date with Ludvig at the Rumble. Here he gets a crack at the WWF title which would be the highest he'd be on the card for the next year and a half. Tatanka hits the ring and immediately attacks Yoko as the bell rings. Tatanka chops him out of the ring and sends him into the steel steps. Yoko slides in the ring and Tatanka punches away at him. Tatanka rocks Yokozuna with a series of chops but Yoko drops the challenger with an elbow. Yoko misses the leg drop but Tatanka misses a dropkick. Yoko misses an elbow drop and Tatanka goes upstairs, hitting a crossbody for 1....2...nope. Tatanka locks in a headlock but Yokozuna sends him off the ropes into a shoulderblock. Yokozuna is dazed but drops Tatanka with a chop. Yokozuna locks in a nerve hold but Tatanka powers out of it. Tatanka rallies with chops but eats a clothesline to kill the momentum. Yoko locks in another nerve hold but Tatanka eventually powers out of it. Tatanka runs off the ropes but eats another clothesline. Yoko chops Tatanka down and applies yet another nervehold. Tatanka powers out of this one, ducks under a clothesline and hits a series of his own. Tatanka goes upstairs but eats a big punch to the ribs. Yoko drops an elbow and punches Tatanka into the corner. Yoko sends Tatanka across the corner and calls for the avalanche...but misses completely. Yoko Flair flops but Tatanka drapes an arm across him for 1...2..nope. Yoko snap mares Tatanka and goes back to...you guessed it...the nerve hold. Tatanka does the "fade then revive" routine and begins to power up when Yoko rams him into the buckle. Tatanka hits a series of chops before going upstairs, dropping Yoko with a clothesline. Tatanka covers for another near fall before Yoko deadweights an irish whip. Yoko then reverses a whip and sends Tatanka into referee Earl Hebner. Mr. Fuji hands Yoko the salt bucket and goes to waffle Tatanka with it. Tatanka blocks the attack and nails Yoko with it. He covers and Earl makes the count 1....2....NOOOOO! Yoko kicks out at the last second and Tatanka goes back upstairs. Fuji knocks him off the top with the Japanese flag and Yoko does the Aftershock for some weird reason. Yoko then hits his standard leg drop and covers for 1...2....3 its over. Yoko retains the title thanks to Mr. Fuji and he puts the exclamation point on his victory with a post-match banzai drop. Yoko hits a second one before the referees hit the ring to halt the attack. Yoko ignores them and stomps away at Tatanka until Garea and Hebner hit ringside to tell him to knock it off. Yoko instead goes apeshit with the flagpole on Tatanka before leaving. Yoko makes an example out of Tatanka showing that no normal man could beat him. Tatanka gets stretchered out but Yoko runs out to beat him up some more for more heat. Bret Hart wrote in his book that Yoko had gotten completely out of shape following King of The Ring around this time and it showed here. Even though it wasn't as bad as it would get in 1996 where Yoko would be winded just walking to the ring, this was pretty bad for the world champion of your company. Either Bret Hart or Lex Luger was going to be your champion after Wrestlemania 10 and the only question was which one was it gonna be?

Time of Match: 14:54

Winner: Yokozuna by pinfall

After a tape-cut, Fink sends us to the most important match of the night. The tag team title match with would be simultaneously be talked about on tonight's Monday Night Raw. This all goes back to the October 25th Raw when a routine match by Marty Jannetty against the 123 Kid was ruined by Johnny Polo. 2 months later with help from Quebecer Pierre, Polo defeated Jannetty in a one on one match on the December 27th Monday Night Raw. One week later with Polo on commentary, Kid and Jannetty challenged Polo to put the belts on the line in a tag match the following Raw. With The Quebecers scheduled to face The Hart Brothers at the Royal Rumble for the belts, it seemed like an ordinary tune up match. Shockingly Kid and Jannetty beat the Quebecers for the belts and just with Shawn Michaels at King of The Ring after he lost the IC title to Jannetty, the Royal Rumble tag match became non title....which is a clue that the Quebecers were getting the belts back. After all, if there were any long term plan to keep the belts on Jannetty and the Kid, why not put them against the Harts at the Rumble?

Match 5

The Quebecers (with Johnny Polo) vs Marty Jannetty and 123 Kid for the WWF Tag Team Championship

Jannetty and Kid jog out with the belts to a huge ovation. Even though he wasn't booked to win that many matches since his May return, Jannetty won the IC and tag titles inside of 8 months. The Quebecers start by posing for the irate crowd before the faces mock them to loud cheers. The Quebecers attack while they're posing with Pierre pouncing on Marty while Jacques nails the Kid. Quebecers go to whip the faces together but Kid leapfrogs Marty and clobbers Pierre. Kid and Jannetty do the 10 punch in the corner before whipping Jacques and Pierre together. They do a do-se-do and eats dropkicks by the champs. Jannetty and Kid clothesline Jacques and Pierre out of the ring and they regroup with Polo. Kid gets a "123" chant going as the heels stall outside. Jannetty and Jacques get in and Jacques fools Marty with a test of strength before shouting at someone in the crowd. Jacques puts the boots to Marty but Marty flips over him and goes for the schoolboy. Jacques blocks it and ducks under a clothesline, but eats a right hand from Marty who tags in Kid. Marty and Kid hit a double hiptoss and drop elbows on Jacques, but eat a double clothesline from Pierre when they nip up. The heels throw the faces out of the ring and hug. Jannetty and the Kid get on the apron, slide under the heels and hit double crescent kicks to knock the mout of the ring. Jannetty goes to take Jacques, Pierre and Polo out with a bodypress but they catch him in midair, forcing Kid to dive out of the ring on top of them. Kid catches his foot on the rope on the way down but gets back in the ring as Marty tosses in Jacques. Kid ducks under a clothesline but Pierre pulls the rope down and Kid crashes over the top to the floor. Pierre sends Kid into the guardrail then the steel steps. Pierre throws Kid inside and Jacques makes the cover, but Kid kicks out. Jacques drops Kid with an elbow smash then puts the boots to him. Jacques rams Kid into the corner then distracts the ref allowing Pierre to choke Kid with the tag rope. Jacques slams the kid and tags Pierre. They tease the Tower of Doom but Pierre drops a knee as Jacques leaves. Pierre hits a snap suplex but misses a second rope leg drop. Jacques tags in and Kid tags in Jannetty. Marty goes to town on both Quebecers and nails Polo off the apron for good measure. Jannetty rams Jacques head into the buckle but Polo distracts the ref. Pierre grabs Marty but Jacques knocks him off the apron by accident. Jannetty hits a running roll up but Pierre clotheslines Marty off Jacques. Jacques hits a roll up but Kid flies off the top onto Jacques. Pierre then belly flops on the Kid before Marty sends Kid to the corner. They recreate the move that won them the tag belts the week before but Polo distracts the referee, allowing Jacques to nail Marty with the polo stick. Jacques rolls Pierre out and covers Marty for 1..2...nope. Jacques sends Marty into the buckle where Pierre tags in. They hit a double stun gun on Marty and Pierre covers for 1...2.. and no. Pierre taunts Marty to get up before locking in a chinlock. Marty powers out of it but eats a knee to the ribs. Jacques tags in and they double team Marty some more. Jacques applies a rear chinlock. Jacques goes for an avalanche but eats a double knee to the gonads. Marty crawls toward Kid but Pierre tags in and clobbers Kid off the apron. Pierre nails a swinging neckbreaker and covers for a deuce before jumping on Marty on the middle rope. Pierre then sells an elbow to the gonads that Marty never actually threw and tags Jacques back in. Jacques hits the jumping elbow and covers but Kid makes the save. Jacques baits Kid which allows him and Pierre to make the switch. Pierre hits a back drop on Marty and tags in Jacques who covers for a deuce. Marty goes for a sunset flip but Jacques stops him with a punch that misses. Jacques clotheslines Marty and tags Pierre back in. Pierre locks in a bearhug but Marty escapes with a bellringer and a hip toss. Marty misses an elbow drop and the heels double team him some more with a another nearfall. Jacques locks in another rear chinlock as the crowd chants "123". Jacques and Pierre do a number on Marty in the corner but Marty fights back. Jacques backdrops Marty over the top to the floor and Polo throws him back in. Jacques covers but Marty gets the foot on the rope. Jacques hits the piledriver and tags in Pierre. Jacques goes to back drop Pierre onto Marty but Jannetty moves out of the way. Marty rolls up Jacques but only gets two. Pierre tags in and hits a sidewalk slam before going up to the second rope. Marty gets the boot up to stun Pierre then crawls toward the Kid. Marty FINALLY tags Kid in who lays waste to the bungholes of the Quebecers. Kid drops both of them with martial arts kicks then goes up top...only to be crotched by Polo. Pierre hits a superplex and tags in Jacques. Jacques tells Pierre to go upstairs and they hit the Tower of Doom. Pierre covers for the 1..2...3 to win the match despite not being the legal man. The Quebecers are once again the tag team champions heading into the Royal Rumble and they leave with the belts. Marty would never win another belt in WWF again while Kid had to wait a calendar year before his next one.

Time of Match: 22:12

Winners: The Quebecers by pinfall (new WWF Tag Team Champions)

Kid is unable to get up following the match and we tape-cut. Fink announces the next MSG show is none other than Wrestlemania 10 on March 20th. Fink says watch Superstars and Wrestling Challenge in the upcoming months to find out what the card will be for Wrestlemania 10....wow, no love for Raw? Fink then sends us to the final match.

Match 6

The New York Rumble

For whatever reason, Vince decided to hold a Royal Rumble five days before the ppv just for the MSG crowd. Fink explains the rules and since there's no scoreboard or clock, he's gonna lead the crowd in the countdown. Since this is going to be a legit 30 man rumble, it'll be interesting to see who's in it considering its just a house show where all bets are off.

Number 1 is Diesel and Number 2 is Mo from Men on a Mission with Oscar in tow. Oscar does his rap before the match and the bell rings. Diesel nails Mo with a knee to the ribs and a forearm to the back of the head. Another forearm drops Mo and Diesel tries to throw him out only to get stopped by an eye rake. Mo works over Diesel in the corner but eats an elbow to the face. The crowd chants for Mo but Diesel floors him with a clothesline. Mo fights back and goes to dump Diesel in the corner but is stopped. Diesel drops Mo with another big right hand and throws him over the top rope...only for Mo to get his foot stuck in the ropes. Oops! Diesel unhooks the foot and MO (1:55)  is eliminated with 5 seconds left in the countdown.

Number 3 is Bushwhacker Butch who gets a big ovation from the crowd before sliding in the ring. Butch caters to the crowd before eating a boot and forearms by Diesel. Butch counters with an eye rake and biting Diesel on the ass. Har de har har. Diesel is not amused and drops Bitch with forearms and a scoop slam. Diesel picks up and tosses BUTCH (49 seconds) over the top and out. Diesel stands and waits for his next opponent as Butch marches around outside for absolutely no reason.

Number 4 is the exhausted 123 Kid who still sells his injury from the previous match. Diesel unloads on Kid and chokes him in the corner with his boot. Diesel heaves Kid across the ring and hits the sidewalk slam. Diesel picks up Kid but eats a hurricarana. Kid kicks away at Diesel in the corner but crotches himself on the top rope. Diesel forearms 123 KID (1:32) to the floor and out. Having Diesel control the match and seeing the MSG crowd's reaction was a test run for what Diesel was going to do in the actual Rumble the upcoming Saturday.

Number 5 is Scott Steiner which means there's going to be a lot of tag team guys in this one since they need 30 bodies. Steiner doesn't even make in the ring as he's attacked by Diesel on the inside. Diesel steps over the top rope to the floor which logically should have meant he just eliminated himself. The refs ignore it as Diesel sends Scott into the ringpost and gets back in the ring to taunt the crowd. Scott crawls in and Diesel whips him into the corner. Diesel tries to dump out Scott but Scott breaks free only to run into a clothesline. Diesel nails Scott with another clothesline but Scott ducks under a third only to throw Diesel THROUGH the ropes. Scott bails to the floor and attacks Diesel with a chair. The crowd begins the countdown and Steiner becomes the first one to make it to the next number.

Number 6 is "Iron" Mike Sharpe as Scott botches the double underhook suplex since Diesel's too big for the move. Sharpe attacks Steiner and beats him down. Mike tries to throw Scott out but Steiner grabs MIKE SHARPE (19 seconds) and tosses him over the top. Steiner gives him the arm and the elbow but that allows Diesel to get in a knee to the ribs. Diesel sends Scott off the ropes and drops him with a big boot. Diesel tries to throw Scott out but Scott counters and hits a snap suplex. The officials at ringside carry 123 Kid out as he legitimately blew out his knee doing the kicks to Diesel. Scott tries to throw Diesel out but Diesel stops him. The countdown begins and who knows what is coming next.

Number 7 is Samu of the Headshrinkers. Diesel eyeballs him as he gets in the ring and they double team Scott. Diesel and Samu try to dump out Scott but Samu pushes on Diesel's back and the big man doesn't like it. Samu and Diesel circle each other and they lock up to give Scott a breather. Diesel hits the knees in the corner and tries to dump Samu but Scott tries to dump them both.

Number 8 is former WWF Champion Bob Backlund who immediately goes after Samu. Backlund nearly went the distance a year earlier so what's 6 more slots in this one? Samu and Backlund go at it and Backlund hits an atomic drop. Him and Steiner try to dump Samu but Diesel makes the save. Diesel damn near dumps Backlund as Samu chokes down Steiner. Steiner fights out of it and levels Samu with a clothesline. Scott hits a snap suplex on Samu as the countdown starts.

Number 9 is Jeff Jarrett who attacks Steiner and Backlund. Jeff then nails Samu only to eat a clothesline by Diesel much to the crowd's delight. Samu hits a gut-wrench suplex on Jarrett but is almost tossed by Backlund. Diesel hits gut-wrench of his own on Steiner and Jarrett tries to throw him out. Jarrett is press-slammed by Steiner as Samu tries to get out of the way. The countdown is nearly missed by the crowd as Samu drops Steiner.

Number 10 is Virgil to even the odds and he goes after Jarrett. Samu snatches him and Jarrett comes off the top with punch...only to be laid out by Samu. Jarrett and Samu then team up to try to get Backlund out as Diesel hits a backbreaker on Virgil. Everybody pairs off with Virgil against Jarrett, Diesel and Backlund & Samu and Steiner. Jarrett hits a snap suplex on Virgil then gets on the middle rope to punch Steiner. Steiner catches him with a reverse atomic drop as the countdown starts.

Number 11 is Bam Bam Bigelow and he goes to town on Steiner with his old buddy Samu. Bam Bam snatches Virgil for Diesel to pound on as Jarrett tries to dump Backlund. Bam Bam and Samu try to dump Steiner as Diesel tries to toss out Jarrett. Backlund jumps on Bam Bam as Samu drops Virgil. Samu hits a savate kick on Virgil as Diesel has passed the 20 minute mark. The countdown begins after Samu and Bam Bam hit a double headbutt on Virgil.

Number 12 is "Macho Man" Randy Savage who goes after anyone that moves until Diesel stops him cold by choking him with his boot. Diesel goes for a big boot in the corner but Randy ducks under it. Randy grabs DIESEL (21:22) and shoves him over the top and out as the crowd pops. Jarrett attacks Savage but Randy ducks under a clothesline and nails Jeff with a punch. Randy grabs JEFF JARRETT (7:04) and tosses him out to another loud pop. Back down to 6 men in the ring, everyone pairs off again. Steiner and Savage, Bam Bam and Backlund, Samu and Virgil. Backlund kicks Bam Bam in the face as the countdown starts.

Number 13 is Adam Bomb, Harvey Whippleman's pick to win it. Bomb gets in and goes after Backlund before Savage. Steiner attacks Bomb and Savage hits Adam with a second rope axehandle. Bam Bam picks up Virgil but he trips and falls. Virgil goes to work on him as Backlund tries to dump out Bomb. Savage grabs Samu and kicks him in the chest as Steiner helps out Backlund as the countdown starts.

Number 14 is Sgt Slaughter making his first appearance in god knows how long. Slaughter helps out Steiner and Backlund dump out ADAM BOMB (2:06). Harvey's pick to win instead lasted 15 seconds longer than Mo did. Slaughter goes to dump out Steiner as Backlund has Virgil halfway out. Savage clocks Sarge and kicks at Steiner. Savage sends Sarge halfway out and Steiner pounces, but fails to get him out. Steiner hits the 20 minute mark as Savage nails Samu with a running axehandle and sends him into Bam Bam. Samu rallies with fists and a dropkick to send the Macho Man down as the countdown begins.

Number 15 is Crush, look out Savage! Crush goes right after Randy and drops him with the help of Samu. Crush hits a tilt a whirl backbreaker on Savage and drops Steiner with a headbutt. Crush grabs and tosses out SCOTT STEINER (21:36) who lasted 14 seconds longer than Diesel. Crush goes back to work on Savage and they roll to the outside. Bam Bam sends Slaughter chest first into the buckle but fails to get him out as the countdown begins.

Number 16 is Mabel from Men on a Mission as Savage jumps into a bearhug by Crush. Slaughter nails Crush to free Randy as Mabel gets in the ring. Crush nails Slaughter, grabs and tosses RANDY SAVAGE (8:41) over the top. Mabel goes to work on Samu before Crush nails Slaughter again. Randy grabs a chair outside and has to be restrained by the referees. Bam Bam picks Crush and goes to slam him out. Crush counters by holding on to the rope as BAM BAM BIGELOW (11:11) hits the floor.  Mabel nails Crush in the middle of the ring and hammers him down. Slaughter and Backlund are tied up in the corner as Virgil pounds away at Samu. Crush sends SGT SLAUGHTER (5:55) chest first over the top and out. Samu hits the 20 minute mark as the countdown begins.

Number 17 is Jim Powers who had been nothing but a jobber the last 5 years since he and Paul Roma split. Jim goes after Mabel but Backlund grabs his leg. Jim ignores him and still goes after Mabel until Mabel grabs him by the throat and heaves him into the corner. Mabel hits an avalanche in the corner then tosses JIM POWERS (43 seconds). Talk about a wasted spot, they could have had a bum off the street do what Powers just did. Crush grabs Backlund and chokes him in the corner as Virgil chokes Samu on the middle rope. Mabel clotheslines Virgil as Bob Backlund hits the 20 minute mark. Mabel drops a leg on Virgil as Samu lands a few kicks on Mabel. The countdown starts as Virgil kicks at Mabel.

Number 18 is Bastion Booger who goes after Maabel. Everyone in the ring gangs up to try to dump Mabel but VIRGIL (17:12) is pushed out by Samu. MABEL (4:29) finally hits the floor as well as BOB BACKLUND (21:23) courtesy of Crush. All 3 faces dumped at once leaves just Booger, Crush and Samu left. Crush and Booger square off in the middle of the ring as Samu takes a breather. Booger headbutts Crush but is attacked by Samu. Booger rakes the eyes of Samu but foolishly turns his back to do his dance. Crush clotheslines BASTION BOOGER (1:14) over and out leaving just him and Samu who's been in there 24 minutes. They tease a test of strength when the countdown begins.

Number 19 is Bushwhacker Luke...of course. Luke walks into a headbutt by Samu and falls. Samu goes for the big splash but gets his head caught in the top rope. Luke pushes SAMU (24:52) to the floor but eats a clothesline from Crush. Luke tries to fight back with an eyepoke but stops to cater to the crowd. Crush punches down Luke then whips him into the corner. Crush hits a crescent kick that sends LUKE (1:00) to the floor, leaving him all alone like Diesel earlier. Too bad Savage is already out, otherwise he was the perfect guy to come out next. The countdown begins as Crush waits for his next opponent.

Number 20 is Owen Hart who runs right into a bearhug by Crush, Owen punches Crush down and goes to work on him. Owen hits a standing dropkick followed by right hands that stun Crush. Owen hits the spinning wheel kick to floor the big guy. Owen gets whipped into the ropes where Crush launches him 10 feet in the air. crush hits the side backbreaker and stops to catch his breath. The countdown begins as Owen moves out of the way of a Crush charge.

Number 21 is "The Model" Rick Martel who goes right after Owen. Martel and Crush double team Owen but Owen ducks and Crush decks Martel with a right hand. Owen hits a missile dropkick from the second rope on Crush and atomic drops Martel through the ropes to the outside. Crush stops Owen's momentum with an inverted atomic drop. Crush and Martel hit a double clothesline on Owen and they double team him in the corner. Owen fights his way out as the countdown starts.

Number 22 is Bret "The Hitman" Hart who saves his brother by going after Crush. The Hart Brothers fend off the heels as Owen gets the upperhand with Martel. With only 8 guys left, two of them have to be Fatu and Rick Steiner. The other 6 who the hell knows. Crush hits Bret with his kick offense whole Martel almost dumps Owen. A fan jumps the guardrail and security pounces on him off camera as the countdown begins.

Number 23 is IRS as Bret hits a dropkick that sends CRUSH (16:14) over the top and out before Irwin even gets in the ring. IRS goes after Bret as Crush complains to the ref outside the ring. Bret slugs it out with Irwin. Martel and Owen try to eliminate each other as the countdown starts.

Number 24 is Johnny Polo...yes of course I'm serious. Bret cuts him off and fdrops him with a series of right hands before trying to dump him out. Martel and Irwin doubleteam Owen but Bret makes the save. Polo goes to down on Owen but Owen reverses Johnny into the corner. Owen hit and inverted atomic drop on Polo and tries to dump him out in a fireman's carry. Martel and Irwin almost have Bret out but Owen makes the save. Polo and Martel then have Owen halfway out as the countdown begins.

Number 25 is Scott Putski, the son of Ivan. Like I said earlier, Putski vs Sharpe was the actual opener of the show. Scott goes to town on Irwin in the corner as Polo goes after Bret. Bret hiptosses Polo halfway across the ring as Owen avoids elimination. Putski is almost dumped by Irwin but Bret makes the save. Putski goes to work on Polo in the corner as Martel and has Owen down. Martel hops on the second rope but Bret stops him. Martel nails Bret with a second rope axehandle as Polo drops Putski. The countdown begins as Bret is halfway out of the ring.

Number 26 is Fatu of the Headshrinkers. Fatu goes after Bret Hart and nails him with a headbutt. Only 4 guys left and one of them has to be Rick Steiner. Irwin almost gets Bret but Owen makes the save again. Fatu stomps at Putski before trying to assist the other heels in dumping Bret. Owen makes the save again only to eat a headbutt by Fatu. Polo gets worked over by Owen and nearly dumped out but Irwin makes the save. Putski hammers away at Martel in the corner which gets a nice pop. The problem with Putski doing the 10 punch in the corner on Martel was it coincided with the countdown and the crowd missed it.

Number 27 is Marty Jannetty....oh, forgot about him since the Kid was number 4. Jannetty walks into a Fatun headbutt before going after his nemesis Johnny Polo. Marty beats Polo all around the ring and tries to dump him out. Marty almost gets Polo as Putski nearly had Fatu out. Owen clubs away at Irwin before hitting a top rope punch. Bret tries to dump Martel but fails as Fatu now has Putski almost out. Polo misses an elbow drop as the countdown begins.

Number 28 is Bart Gunn of the Smoking Gunns. This was supposed to be Ludvig Borga but he hurt his ankle in the brawl with Rick Steiner, thankfully Bart just happened to be at the arena so Vince plugged him in. Bart goes after Fatu and beats him into the corner as Putski looks for someone to beat on. Bret holds Irwin for Marty to hit with a top rope punch. as Owen, Martel and Polo cram into the corner. Putski and Martel try to dump out Fatu as Owen and Polo continue to go at it. Martel nearly has Bret out but Owen makes the save again. Irwin goes to town on IRS as Jannetty catches a breather in the corner. The countdown begins as Bret hits a headbutt on Polo.

Number 29 is "The Heartbreak Kid" Shawn Michaels which would be my pick to win it if I were watching this live in 1994. Marty cuts him off and they start beating the daylights out of each other, Marty goes to town on Shawn in the corner but Shawn cuts him off with an inverted atomic drop. Shawn gets the upperhand as the crowd pops for the ex-Rockers going at it. Shawn hits Marty with a few elbows and whips Marty off the ropes only for Jannetty to duck under a clothesline and hit him withn the superkick. By the way Putski and Polo are still there as Marty has Shawn halfway out of the ring. Fatu comes over and nails Marty off of Shawn. Irwin comes over and holds Marty for Shawn to go to work on. Bret, Owen, Samy and Irwin cram in to the corner as the countdown begins.

Number 30 is NOT Rick Steiner...its actually Doink The Clown accompanied by Dink. Before Doink gets in the ring, MARTY JANNETTY (6:12) is backdropped to the floor by his old partner HBK. Owen Hart hits the 20 minute mark as the final field of ten is complete. Bret Hart, Owen Hart, Rick Martel, IRS, Johnny Polo, Scott Putski, Fatu, Bart Gunn, Shawn Michaels and Doink remain. Fatu nails Doink as soon as he gets in the ring as Putski clotheslines Polo down. Polo rakes the eyes of Putski as Jannetty finally leaves. Owen ducks under a roll up by Polo and Johnny goes over the top rope but lands on the apron. Polo goes upstairs but Owen cuts him off with a headbutt, sending JOHNNY POLO (13:11) crashing to the floor. Fatu ducks a charge and SCOTT PUTSKI (11:31) is backdropped out. Scott Putski wouldn't even be on WWF tv semi-regularly for another 3 years but he lasted 11 minutes in a Royal Rumble. Johnny Polo wouldn't be in another one until he returned as Raven in 2001.

Down to eight men remaining Doink pounds away at Martel in the corner as Owen has Shawn halfway out. Doink clotheslines Bret as Owen hits Shawn with a few European uppercuts. Martel then starts choking his Survivor Series teammate Irwin. Irwin then ducks under and backdrops RICK MARTEL (19:45) out of the ring. Shawn has Owen halfway out but Owen then pulls Shawn over the top with him. Irwin and Fatu try to dump Bret out but Bart Gunn cuts him off. Doink and Irwin go at it before he hits Bart. Doink begs off then clobbers Bart. Doink suplexes BART GUNN (7:10) over the top to the floor.

Down to the final six of Doink, IRS, Shawn Michaels, Bret Hart, Owen Hart and Fatu as Doink laughs at Bart Gunn on the floor. Irwin knees Doink in the back and sends him into the corner. Shawn sees him staggering and clotheslines DOINK THE CLOWN (3:14) over the top and gone. Shawn and Irwin go after the Hart Brothers with Fatu assisting Shawn. Doink tries to get back in the ring but referee Danny Davis tells him to scram. Bret atomic drops IRS (17:40) over the top and out as the second rope looks broken.

The final four go into opposite corners and apart from Owen Hart, three of these guys are going to be in the final four this coming Saturday night. Bret hits the 20 minute mark as Bret and Fatu square off with Owen and Shawn the other. Shawn crotches himself on the top rope and Owen nearly rocks him out. Fatu drops Bret with a crescent kick as Shawn has Owen in the tree of woe. Bret almost has Fatu out but Shawn makes the save and dumps BRET HART (21:36) out. Fatu and Shawn circle Owen as Bret leaves. Fatu and Shawn double team Owen but Owen counters with a double clothesline. Owen dropkicks Shawn and tries to dump Fatu but Shawn cuts him off. Owen rams Fatu and Shawn's heads together and Shawn goes flying while Fatu no sells it. Fatu drops Owen with a headbutt of his own and Fatu picks Owen up to be superkicked by Shawn into a spinebuster by Fatu...nice double team. All of a sudden Razor Ramon hits ringside to taunt Shawn. Shawn climbs onto the middle rope to shout at Razor as Fatu whips Owen off the ropes. Owen hits a spinning wheel kick that sends Fatu crashing into SHAWN MICHAELS (10:30) that sends him over the top to the floor. Razor and Shawn brawl to the back as the final two are Owen Hart and Fatu....who saw that coming?

The middle rope finally breaks and Owen chokes Fatu with it when Samu runs back to ringside. Fatu hits a sidewalk slam and throws Owen over the top..but Owen catches himself on the apron. Owen clobbers Fatu and throws him over the top, but Samu makes the save from the outside. Gorilla Monsoon would be having a bird on commentary if he was there and where the hell is Bret? Owen punches Fatu in the corner but Fatu lowblows him. Finally Bret comes back to ringside to even the odds and cheer Owen on. Fatu and Owen slug it out in the ring with Fatu dropping Owen and delivering a falling headbutt. Fatu misses a charge in the corner and Owen slams him. Owen goes up to the top and hits the flying elbow. Fatu gets up and hits a backbreaker on Owen. Fatu goes up to the top but Owen pops up and nails him, forcing Fatu to crotch himself on the top turnbuckle. Owen grabs Fatu and goes to deliver a dropkick but FATU (20:27) already is throwing himself over the top to end the match. Owen Hart wins the New York Rumble after lasting 32 minutes! Bret gets in and celebrates with Owen as the Headshrinkers gather themselves outside. Bret and Owen celebrate until the Headshrinkers get back in the ring. Finally the Headshrinkers retreat and the Harts stand tall.

Winner: Owen Hart

That was definitely an unorthodox Royal Rumble for sure. I'm sure this was a test run for the real thing which showed Owen was just as good as Bret and guys like Diesel and Crush could dominate. Its too bad this house show is only remembered for the tag title change but keep in mind there was no internet in 1994 and the MSG shows were barely mentioned anymore on television. Only those in attendance saw Owen Hart's coming out party. One thing I should mention is one of the reasons the Rumble went so long was originally there was supposed to be a Rock n Roll Express vs Heavenly Bodies match that was cancelled because of bad travel weather. Jim Cornette wasn't going to risk his top two tag teams for a house show that wasn't even going to be mentioned on TV. As for the whole show, they had their first big house show of the year without The Undertaker or Lex Luger. Nothing was overly worth watching again, especially the Tatanka/Yoko match. Not only that both 123 Kid and Ludvig Borga got hurt and would both miss the Rumble ppv. As we head toward Royal Rumble weekend, the Harts will once again be gunning for the tag belts with The Quebecers regaining the titles. The funny thing was on the same night as the New York Rumble, Monday Night Raw was having Stan Lane give phone updates of the tag match throughout the night to Vince McMahon and Crush on commentary....which was obviously pre-taped since The Hart Brothers, Randy Savage, IRS, Yokozuna, Shawn Michaels, Diesel, Tatanka and Crush were on that Raw card. That episode of Monday Night Raw will be up next just for continuity purposes. As for the New York Rumble, its worth a look if you can ever find it.

WWF Superstars (1/1/94)

WWF Superstars
Utica War Memorial
Utica, NY
January 1, 1994

Commentators: Vince McMahon Jr, Stan Lane, Gorilla Monsoon and Jim Ross

Ring Announcer: Tony Chimel

Happy New Year everyone as the calendar turns to 1994, we are in the middle of Royal Rumble season. Last week it was announced our main event for today would be Quebecer Jacques of the WWF Tag Team Champions taking on Lex Luger. The Quebecers were guest commentators on Raw and Jacques was very confident going into this match. Why wouldn't he be? You know Johnny Polo will be there along with Pierre. Vince McMahon Jr and Stan Lane welcome us to the show and says Lex vs Jacques is coming up first but sends us to Gorilla Monsoon and Jim Ross to call the match....what? Apparently this was taped on December 15th for Wrestling Challenge but decided to air it on Superstars, hence why Gorilla and Ross are on the call.

Match 1

Quebecer Jacques (with Johnny Polo) vs Lex Luger

Commentators: Gorilla Monsoon and Jim Ross

Jacques grabs the mic before the match starts and says he wants to settle something once and for all. Jacques says Lex knocked Pierre out of Survivor Series but they've told Jack Tunney that he's not going to wrestle Lex until the steel plate is removed from his arm. Gorilla "Why you ingrate! You moron! What a gutless wonder!" Suddenly referees Tim White and Danny Davis stop Jacques from leaving and sends him to the ring. Here comes Lex Luger for the actual match. Jacques attacks him at the bell and puts the boots to him in the corner. Jacques rams Luger's head into the buckle and Lex reverses a whip into the corner. Lex's charge eats boot and Jacques clotheslines him down. Jacques kicks away at Lex but Luger rallies with punches of his own. Lex charges but Jacques ducks, sending Luger over the top rope to the floor. Johnny Polo kicks Luger outside as Gorilla calls him a little worm. Jacques rams Lex's head into the apron then rolls him inside for a pinfall attempt 1...2...no. Jacques applies a chinlock but Luger stands up and Jacques tries to ram him in the buckle. Lex blocks it and rams Jacques into the buckle 10 times to make the kids cheer. Lex hits a backbreaker and drops a forearm to the chest before Jacques begs off in the corner. Lex punches away on the second rope but gets to four before Jacques hits an inverted atomic drop. Lex whips Jacques into referee Joey Marella and Polo trips him up. Jacques and Luger collide which has all three guys on the mat. Polo pulls Jacques out and Pierre comes down to the ring. Pierre splashes Luger in the ring and the ref has no idea its not Jacques. Pierre covers for 1..2....no. Pierre pounds away at Luger but Lex rallies with a clothesline, right hands and a backdrop. He calls for the forearm and wipes Pierre out with him. He covers for 1.2....3 to win the match! But wait! Jacques gets in the ring and tells Joey that was Pierre, not him. Lex snatches Jacques and punches away at him. Luger buries Jacques with the forearm and covers for 1...2...3 to win the match. For real this time. Johnny Polo gets in to protest and Lex grabs him too. Johnny begs off but Lex sends him off the ropes and knocks him out with a forearm as well. Ross says Luger has beaten the tag team champions and their manager. Gorilla "Three for the price of 1, I love it." If you thought one guy beating the tag team champions was a recent trope, think again. Then again, the Quebecers were heels so its all good. Good little angle to have Luger beat up both Quebecers to foil their chicanery.

Time of match: 6:57

Winner: Luger by pinfall

Post-match we get a Royal Rumble advertisement for Saturday night January 22nd before we're sent to Face to Face with Jim Ross. Ross hypes up the New York Rumble coming up January 17 at Madison Square Garden. Randy Savage, The Heavenly Bodies, The Rock N Roll Express, The Headshrinkers, Scott Steiner, The Smoking Gunns, Doink The Clown, The Bushwhackers and more. Spoiler alert, the Express never made it. Ross also says Yokozuna puts the WWF Championship on the line against Tatanka. Jim Cornette and Mr. Fuji says Tatanka is going to suffer a lot of pain on the 17th. Cornette says Tatanka's people should go to school and get a job. He says when Yokozuna drops the banzai, Tatanka is going down. Tatanka himself says this is the most important bout in his career and everyone knows what he did to him. Tatanka says this is his first title match at MSG and he's out for revenge. Ross says Monday night, January 17, be there. We cut to a Razor Ramon PSA to say smoking is for losers before we get to our next match.

Match 2

Mike Khoury & Tim McNeany vs The Headshrinkers (Samu & Fatu) with Afa

Commentators: Vince McMahon and Stan Lane

Never understood why you'd have the main event first then nothing but squashes after. Good to see Kowalski grad McNeany though. Insert interview has the Headshrinkers and Afa shouting in Samoan about the Rumble. Back to the ring, Vince says they might be the only team that would actually fight each other while liking it. Samu starts with McNeany and chops him down but Tim ducks the line. Tim hits two clotheslines of his own that Samu no sells before running into a superkick. Samu headbutts McNeany tags out to Khoury. Sam says Khoury boxed for two years at Sugar Ray Leonard's gym and he gets double headbutted down. Fatu tags in and rakes the face in front of the camera as Vince hypes up a house show this Thursday in Port Jervis, New York. Afa punches down Khoury and headbutts him again. Samu tags in for the double faceplant before tagging Fatu. Fatu hits the top rope splash and covers for 1..2.....3 to win the match. Standard squash with the announcers talking more about anything else.

Time of match: 2:54

Winners: Headshrinkers by pinfall

Promotional consideration paid for by the following: Ico Pro starring Tatanka. We cut to Ray Rougeau in the interview stage and his guest is WWF Intercontinental Champion Razor Ramon. Razor cuts off Ray and asks what's wrong with this picture. Ray says the gold around Razor's neck is missing. Razor reiterates that if something happens to his gold, something happens to the guy that did it. Ray says that after Razor was attacked by Shawn Michaels, the gold disappeared. Then three weeks earlier cameras cut IRS with the gold in his briefcase on Monday Night Raw. Razor calls IRS "tax mang" and says "You ripoff the bad guy? Do you know how long and hard I work to buy this precious gold." Ray says he'll try to regain the gold and retain the title but the fans are concerned about Razor's health. We go to a clip of Shawn Michaels hitting the Razor's Edge twice on the floor and Ray asks how much that took out of him. Razor responds that nobody knows better than him how deadly the razor's edge is and tells "tax mang" that he gets knocked down, but he'll get up again. Razor "Everybody, look at me now! I'm up and I'm coming to the Royal Rumble." Razor says he's bringing the gold that can't be bought and IRS is going to have to fight for it. Razor finishes by saying IRS can't beat him one on one before he leaves. Its funny how everyone gets hit with chairs and chainsaws days before a ppv these days and this was 3 weeks before the Rumble and Ray was asking if Razor would even make it. On to the next match after commercial break.

Match 3

Tony Roy vs Bastion Booger

The FABULOUS Tony Roy takes on the grotesque Booger in this one. We got a 5 year old named Trevor Jones to do the intros which was just an excuse for the kid to say "booger." Ironically it was Bastion's idea to turn babyface because he wanted the kids to say "booger" in the era of the gross. It never happened but that would have worked, 10 years later The Boogeyman proved it. Vince runs down Booger's physique as he makes his entrance. Bell's gone and Roy backs away saying Booger stinks. Roy starts with a headlock but runs into a backdrop. Booger beats down Tony and delivers a headbutt. Bastion sends Tony off and drops him with a clothesline. Booger hits a power slam and covers for 1...2....3 to end the match. After the match he hits the Trip To The Batcave for good measure. Standard squash to make Booger look menacing.

Time of match: 55 seconds

Winner: Booger by pinfall

We're sent to a vignette for Thurman "Sparky" Plugg driving a racecar with 80's sounding music. Not exactly the coolest presentation. Anyway, Sparky says he's on his way to the World Wrestling Federation. Who thought we needed a race car driver in WWF? "Hollywood" Bob Holly was just fine in Smoky Mountain. On to the next match.

Match 4

Barry Hardy vs Owen Hart (with Bret Hart)

Things are back to normal for Bret and Owen who patched things up over the holidays. Now they have their sights set on The Quebecers at the Royal Rumble. Owen will be in single's action. Bell rings and Owen starts with a headlock before dropping Barry with a shoulderblock. Owen reverses a hiptoss and hits an armdrag. Owen works over Barry's left arm as we get an insert promo from the Hart brothers. Owen says they're coming for the Quebecers and Bret says they're gonna find out the hard way that they mean business. Owen in the ring hits an enziguiri and a monkey flip as Stan Lane says neither Hart mentioned they're in the Rumble match. Owen hits a gut-wrench suplex and goes up to the top rope. Owen hits a missile dropkick and locks in the sharpshooter. Barry gives it up and Owen wins it. Bret and Owen celebrate in the ring as Vince says they're re-united. Bret and Owen watch themselves on the big screen for the replay.

Time of match: 1:46

Winner: Owen by submission

We go to the Royal Rumble report where Todd wishes everyone a happy new year. He shills the Royal Rumble coming up on Saturday night January 22nd. He runs down the rules and mentions the 18 Superstars already in...Bret Hart, Crush, Kamala, Owen Hart, Doink The Clown, Mabel from Men on a Mission, Scott Steiner, Shawn Michaels, Diesel, Adam Bomb, Bam Bam Bigelow, Randy Savage, 123 Kid, Samu, Fatu, Rick Steiner, Bob Backlund and Greg "The Hammer" Valentine. We got nine more to list. Todd says the Smoking Gunns, Rick Martel, Bastion Booger, Marty Jannetty, Mo from Men on a Mission, Double J Jeff Jarrett, Ludvig Borga and Tatanka. He says we'll find out the final three entrants next week, with the results of the Lex Luger poll still to come. Todd says President Jack Tunney is getting antsy over the overwhelming support for Lex Luger. Finally Todd plugs the main event, The Undertaker vs WWF Champion Yokozuna in a Casket Match. We get sent to The Undertaker's workshop where Paul Bearer says its a new year, a time to look to the past but also to the future. Bearer says 1994 is the year of the casket, ohhhh yesssssssss. The Undertaker "I've made my new years resolution, Yokozuna. May you rest in peace." Back to Todd, he explains the rules of the casket match and then plugs the tag title match between The Hart Brothers vs Quebecers, Ludvig Borga vs Tatanka and IRS vs Razor Ramon for the IC title strap. Todd "Stay where you are....unless you're in a dangerous situation so move." Todd says Ludvig Borga is next in action. Undertaker is definitely being booked as a monster against Yokozuna instead of the underdog, and it works.

Match 5

Ludvig Borga vs John Crystal

Speaking of Borga vs Tatanka coming up, here comes Borga to end the show. Vince on commentary wishes everyone a happy new year but Borga attacks Crystal before the bell even rings, causing Tony Chimel to head for the hills. Borga whips Crystal off and takes his head off with a lariat. Borga taunts the crowd as we get an insert promo from Tatanka. Tatanka says he has two opprtunities to get revenge on Borga, referencing they're both in the Rumble match as well. Borga choke bombs Crystal and tells referee Jack Doan to stick it. Vince says the Rumble match might be first before their match (YEAH RIGHT!) as Ludvig headbutts Crystal down. Vince says Tatanka has "oodles of pride" as Borga hits a modified end of the trail to mock Tatanka. Vince brings up that next week we'll find out the final 3 Rumble entrants as Borga uppercuts Crystal in the ribs. Borga hooks in the torture rack and Crystal gives it up to end the match. Standard squash in which we learned the final 3 entrants will be announced next week and Tatanka wants to beat up Borga twice.

Time of match: 2:03

Winner: Borga by submission

We're sent to face to face with good ol Jim Ross who wishes everyone a happy new year. Ross plugs the Rumble and the entrants before sending us to Shawn Michaels. Michaels says he was blessed as a young boy and now he's the most talented man. He says everyone is jealous of him and he has no friends. Ross asks about Diesel and Shawn says he's his one buddy and he'll step over the top rope for Shawn. Ross asks about Jeff Jarrett and Shawn says it would be great for everyone to step in the ring with him but don't get greedy. Ross asks about Macho Man Randy Savage the two time World Champion and Shawn replies that Savage is a legend but his days are numbered. Shawn says Randy used to be great but is now a thing of the past. Ross asks about Bret Hart and Shawn says he's better than Bret and 29 others. Shawn says he proves he's the best of all but never gets a title shot. He says after the Rumble they'll have no choice but to give it to him. Ross signs off and says to order the Rumble.

Promotional consideration paid for by the following.....WWF Rage in The Cage for Sega CD. Vince signs off and says next week Razor Ramon, Jeff Jarrett, Bret Hart and Yokozuna will be there next week. Yoko will be in a handicap match as we sign off.

Well that was a big bucket of meh after the first match, but that was par for the course at the time. Luger wiping out the tag team champions is classic booking to look strong. Everything else was standard squashes and Rumble hype. Lex Luger was clearly going to be in the Rumble and thankfully the whole will he or won't he would be decided next week. The only question was who were the other two guys in the Rumble? The Bushwhackers were still there, you had The Heavenly Bodies, Rock N Roll Express and Well Dunn in Tennessee, Virgil was still on TV and there's Kwang & Thurman Plugg still to make their debuts. We'll find out next week. So as last week's All-American mentioned, there is no episode of All-American this week. It was pre-empted by some movie marathon on USA. Wrestling Challenge was still on schedule the next day so I'll see you there.

WWF Monday Night Raw (12/27/93)

Monday Night Raw
Mid-Hudson Civic Center
Poughkeepsie, NY
December 27, 1993

Commentators: Vince McMahon Jr, Quebecer Jacques & Quebecer Pierre

Ring Announcer; Howard Finkel

Welcome to another Monday Night RAWWWW. As the holidays in 1993 come to an end, we start gearing toward the next pay-per-view extravaganza the 1994 Royal Rumble. Before that happens, there's some business to take care of first. Months earlier Johnny Polo ruined a match between Marty Jannetty and 123 Kid and Marty finally gets Polo in the ring tonight. Unfortunately for Marty, tonight's guest hosts with Vince McMahon are the WWF Tag Team Champions, The Quebecers. The Quebecers laugh loudly in the opening intro with Pierre (in French) saying he's gonna get Lex Luger for putting him out of Survivor Series. Vince says who knows what's going to happen tonight as he sends us to our first match.

Match 1

Lex Luger vs Barry Horrowitz

Lex comes out smiling and Vince claims he's smiling because he body slammed Yokozuna again the previous week on Raw. Jacques says he won't be smiling this weekend on Superstars because they're booked for a 1 on 1 showdown. Jacques says it would be a surprise if Barry wins as Lex gets in a go-behind. Jacques and Pierre speak French to annoy Vince as Lex gets in an armdrag on Barry. Jacques asks why Lex and Bret Hart put so much oil on themselves. Vince says it makes them a little slippery to get out of certain holds. Lex poses for the crowd and Barry just lets him as Vince says Lex wants to be in the Royal Rumble. Barry gets the upperhand with several boots to the midsection but Luger whips him into a chest bump in the corner. Luger rolls him up for a deuce as Jacques mentions The Quebecers will be facing Bret and Owen Hart for the tag belts at the Rumble.  Barry gets a thumb to the eye, a back rake and a European uppercut. Barry gets a jawbreaker in before forearming Lex in the side of the head. Barry taunts the crowd and punches Lex in the face. Vince says the Quebecers may not make it to the Rumble and Jacques counters its the Hart brothers you need to worry about staying intact. Barry rams Lex's head into his boot and goes to work in the corner. Barry chokes Lex in the corner with his foot as Jacques speaks French to annoy Vince again. Jacques says he speaks English, French and Spanish as Barry does shoulderblocks in the corner. Lex roars out of the corner with a clothesline before powerslamming Barry. Jacques asks why he looks at the crowd after every move as Lex sets up Barry for a superplex. Lex hits the superplex and covers for 1...2...3 to end the match. Jacques says that's not gonna happen with him and Vince hypes up their match this coming Saturday.

Time of match: 4:25

Winner: Lex Luger by pinfall

After the match Vince plugs the WWF Hotline and tells the fans at home to call Jack Tunney and tell him if Lex should or shouldn't be in the Rumble. Only 99 cents per minute so give them a call at 1-900-454-4WWF. Jacques says enough is enough and Vince switches gears to the main event of the evening, Marty Jannetty vs Johnny Polo. Vince with Jacques and Pierre laughing shows the October 25th Raw where Polo ruins the Kid and Jannetty's match. Polo on that Raw says he can beat both of them. After the montage is over we go to a live interview with Johnny. Vince "Johnny can you hear us?
Johnny "Of course I can hear you Mc-Moron, whataya want?" Johnny says he can take "Marty Confetti" and the "Snot Nosed Kid" and beat both of them like he did on October. Tonight Johnny says he's gonna beat Marty "Confetti" in the center of the ring. Vince says "Thank you Johnny Hobo" which causes Jacques to correct Vince while Polo tries not to laugh. (Boston market commercials are for Auto Zone, Vicks Formula 44 cough syrup, National Education Centers, a promo for USA Up All Night with Gilbert Gotfried and a promo for the movie Day of The Jackal)

Promotional Consideration Paid For By The Following: Ico Pro (Razor Ramon lifting), Electronic Talking Battleship and Street Fighter 2 Championship Edition on SNES and Sega.

Match 2

Johnny Polo vs Marty Jannetty

Polo gives Howard Finkel bunny ears before going outside to hug Jacques and Pierre. Johnny also threatens to hit Vince with the polo stick. Jannetty enters wearing the green and black bodysuit with Polo in polo pants and striped singlet. Jacques and Pierre speak French to annoy Vince as the bell rings. Johnny backs off before getting in a go-behind to start. He hiptosses Marty as Jacques says he's the man. Marty and Johnny exchange wristlocks before running into an armdrag by Polo. Jacques says Marty is over the hill and did nothing since he split with Shawn Michaels....ouch. Marty tricks Polo into diving into the corner. Polo hops over the top rope onto the apron but Jannetty slingshots him back in. Marty delivers an atomic drop, ducks under a right hand and delivers a back suplex. Marty covers for a deuce as Jacques says Marty is good but Johnny was in Honolulu recently. Marty tilt-a-whirls into a sunset flip for a 1 count. Marty armdrags Johnny and works an armbar as Jacques says Marty has a black eye courtesy of Johnny. Marty goes for a bodypress but Polo ducks and Marty goes crashing over the top rope. Polo hits a plancha as Jacques claps for him. Polo looks at the camera and says "Polo fever...CATCH IT!" Jacques says "Polo Fever, Polomania." Johnny gets back in the ring as the crowd chants for Marty. Polo works Marty over on the apron but Marty slingshot presses onto Johnny for 1...2...nope. Polo snaps Marty over and works a chinlock. Vince taunts the Quebecers saying Marty will knock Polo out of action and the Harts win at the Rumble. Marty and Johnny both go for bodypresses but crash into each other. Vince asks if Jacques and Pierre were ever Arkansas State Troopers and Jacques has no idea what he's talking about and says concentrate on the match. Marty sends Polo chest first into the buckle and nails him with the flying back elbow. Polo puts his head down and Marty rams his head into the ground. Marty goes upstairs but Polo crotches him and goes for a superplex. Marty counters and front suplexes Marty down before hitting a bodypress for 1..2....NOOOOO. Jacques "Don't count your apples before they grow." Marty leapfrogs Polo and rolls him up for a two count and Jacques continues to annoy Vince with French. Polo kicks Marty in the head as Pierre gets up from the table. Jacques tells Vince to mind his business as Marty dropkicks Polo over the top rope to the floor. Pierre picks up Johnny and Marty baseball slides both men down. Jacques "That'll make him mad, shouldn't have done that." Jacques "Ou es Pierre?" He's right there you idiot! Pierre trips up Marty and he turns his attention to him. Polo goes to attack but Marty goes to counter with the superkick but Polo is too close so he grazes him in the stomach. Marty sidesteps and hits the real superkick and goes upstairs. Pierre pulls Johnny outside and Marty flies on top of Pierre and punches him. Polo goes back in the ring and Marty gets on the apron. Marty shoulderblocks Polo and goes for the sunset flip but Pierre assists Polo by grabbing on to him during the counter for 1...2....3 and its over. Johnny Polo needed a lot of help from Pierre but makes good on his pre-match prediction by beating Marty Jannetty. Jacques says they are the greatest and laughs about it. Vince says he's never seen anything like this as Polo walks away victorious as Pierre rejoins Jacques at the announce table.

Time of match: 8:23

Winner: Johnny Polo by pinfall

After the match, Marty complains to referee Joey Marella and goes to attack The Quebecers. Joey says the result is final but throws Pierre out of the arena. Marty grabs a chair and Vince tells him to take it easy. Marty and Jacques look to square off as Marella tells Pierre to hit the bricks. I don't think I've ever seen a referee throw out an announcer before or since. We cut to commercial as Vince says Pierre is gone. (Boston market commercials include Nyquil, Butterfinger, 1994 Mazda 626 and 1994 F-150 Ford) We're shown the vignette where Yokozuna dreams he's Santa Claus before we get the next match.

Match 3

Doink The Clown (with Dink) vs Spike Gray

Doink brings Dink to the ring in a wagon as Vince celebrates Pierre being gone and tells Jacques he'll be next if he doesn't behave. Vince says President Jack Tunney won't tolerate them and Jacques says Tunney should worry more about Lex Luger's loaded elbow. Dink offers Doink some chewing gum before the bell rings. Dink offers some to Spike but its a trap....har de har har. Jacques "Oh my godddddd." (Me: Hahahahahaha) Dink kicks Spike in the shins and Jacques says if Dink gets hit everyone will complain but he gets to go around kicking people. Vince calls Johnny Polo a joke and Jacques says it won't be a joke when Bam Bam Bigelow gets ahold of him. Dink climbs to the top rope and Spike goes to punch him but Dink counters by punching him in the nose. Doink hits a German suplex and bridges for 1..2...3 its over. Jacques says to go check on Pierre as Vince sends us to the Royal Rumble report.

Time of match: 1:04

Winner: Doink by pinfall

Todd Pettengill says Doink got Dink for Christmas but imagine if Dink got Doink a dog....ha ha ha. Todd says he welcomes The Quebecers...or just Jacques to Raw and says they're 3 weeks away from the 1994 Royal Rumble. He shills the Rumble match itself and runs down the list of who's in so far. Bret Hart, Crush, Kamala, Owen Hart, Doink The Clown, Mabel, Scott Steiner, Shawn Michaels. Diesel, Adam Bomb, Bam Bam Bigelow, Macho Man Randy Savage, 123 Kid, Fatu, Samu, Rick Steiner, Bob Backlund and Greg "The Hammer" Valentine making his official return. Todd says Lex Luger may or may not be entered and shills the WWF hotline again. Todd then shills the Casket Match between Undertaker and WWF champion Yokozuna, Razor Ramon and IRS battle for the Intercontinental title and The Hart Brothers take on The Quebecers for the WWF Tag Team titles. We cut to a promo of Bret and Owen and Bret says they've patched things up and are focused on beating the Quebecers. Owen says there's no problems anymore and they're taking the belts. Todd says this is his first ever title shot before sending it back to Vince and Jacques. Jacques says Owen and Bret are temporarily together because at the Rumble they'll try to outdo each other which will lead to their demise....talk about foreshadowing. Vince says Crush is up next in action as we go to commercial. (Boston market commercials include Ricola, Sonic Chaos for Game Gear, Whitewater Zest soap, the Sci-Fi Channel and a promo for Hush Little Baby). Back from commercial, Todd hypes up next week's main event as The Smoking Gunns vs Bam Bam Bigelow and Bastion Booger.

Match 4

Crush (with Mr. Fuji) vs Mike Moraldo

Jacques praises Crush on his way to the ring and Vince praises Macho Man Randy Savage's victory over Fatu on Raw. Crush kicks Moraldo and drops him with a chop as Jacques says the only reason their team lost at Survivor Series was Randy Savage sticking his nose in. Crush over head press slams Moraldo and the still shot of that would later be used on the cover of WWF Magazine. Crush bows to Fuji as Vince says Savage is coming for him. Crush punches Moraldo down as Vince says Randy is back with Todd Pettengill on WWF Mania. Crush does his Chong Li kick combination as Jacques refuses to say what Pierre got him for Christmas. Jacques says what's with Vince suing Star Magazine for 5 million and Vince says that's not him that's ED McMahon as Crush locks in the Cranium Crush. Vince says Moraldo is seeing stars as the ref calls for the bell. Vince "Crush defeating Mike Moraldo rather handily." Vince sends us to The Undertaker's workshop.

Time of match: 2:15

Winner: Crush by submission

We got to Undertaker's workshop where Paul Bearer makes Christmas puns on Mr. Fuji, Jim Cornette and Yokozuna. Undertaker "Soon Yokozuna, you too will be gift wrapped. Merry Christmas Yokozuna...ho....ho...hooooooo" It was a good touch to have Taker stalk Yokozuna like this rather than have them get in the ring and attack each other like you see now. We cut to commercial (Boston market commercials include Slim Jim, Vicks 44 Liquicaps, the pay-per-view channel, Hollywood Hair and Bret Hart telling us not to drink and drive) before we go back to Vince and Jacques. Vince sends us to the WWF Women's Championship tournament finals where Alundra Blayze beat Heidi Lee Morgan in the finals. We get the pre-match promos and highlights of the match itself from the previous week. It was nice to see the women's division get a reboot since it had been dormant for the previous 5 years. Vince says up next is Razor Ramon and we go to commercial one last time. (Boston market commercials include Dayquil, V8 Picante juice, a movie trailer for The Air Up There and Nyquil). When we return we get a vignette of Kwang doing martial arts, soon to make his debut. Why the world needed a Puerto Rican ninja we may never know. Time for the final match of the night as Razor Ramon makes his entrance in the purple trunks. Vince asks where the gold around Razor's neck went and Jacques says IRS is going to win at the Rumble.

Promotional Consideration Paid For By The Following: WWF Royal Rumble for SNES and Sega, Electronic Talking Battleship and Mortal Kombat for Sega and SNES.

Match 5

WWF Intercontinental Champion Razor Ramon vs Derek Domino

Jacques says Domino made a promise before the match that he'd deliver Razor Ramon in 30 minutes or less....ha ha ha. Domino works over the left arm but Razor takes him down. Jacques brings up how Shawn Michaels attacked Razor a few weeks prior on Raw. Domino chops Razor in the corner and Razor counters with chops of his own before sending Domino flying across the ring. Domino ducks a clothesline and catches Domino mid-air. Jacques and Vince babble on about Fidel Castro's daughter as Razor hits a top rope fallaway slam. Razor does his STF slaparound as Vince says the gold around Razor's neck is in IRS' briefcase. Vince hypes up a USA made for TV movie called Fallen Champ about the life of Mike Tyson and Jacques says Razor's would be Falling Chump. Razor locks in an abdominal stretch as Jacques calls it an Ab-Domino stretch. Vince says Domino will be going to Pizza Hut after because Razor is no Little Caesar...good lord. Razor looks at the crowd and Vince asks Jacques about Razor and Castro's daughter and Jacques says to ask Jack Tunney. Vince counters by saying Tunney is Canadian, what does he know? Razor plants Domino on the top rope and hits the back suplex. Jacques says his New Year's Resolution is too teach Pierre how to speak English. Razor calls for the Razor's Edge and hits it. Razor covers for 1..2...3 to end the match. Jacques says this was the best Raw ever and Happy New Year to all the Frenchmen.

Time of match: 3:52

Winner: Razor Ramon by pinfall

We end the show with Vince hyping up a tag match between The Smoking Gunns and Bam Bam Bigelow & Bastion Booger next week on Raw. Jacques says its gonna be a big one and Vince says Double J Jeff Jarrett will be in action as well as Yokozuna. Jacques says Johnny Polo will be the special guest host with Vince and Vince rolls his eyes before saying goodbye. Jacques flexes his bicep and we fade to black.

It seemed like this was another lackluster show with the Polo/Jannetty payoff but things were just beginning. For those scoring at home, this coming Saturday on Superstars will be the big Lex Luger vs Jacques showdown and next week on Raw is the tag match. That's how things were back then, one "main event" per show with a bunch of squash matches. You had to catch each show if you wanted to see the big matches but the catch 22 is you didn't miss much if you didn't. See you Saturday for Mania.

WWF at Rosemont Horizon (11/25/88)

Rosemont Horizon
Chicago, IL
November 25, 1988

We've made it to the final show in our Black Friday triple shot. Now we got the star power with a main event of Andre The Giant taking on "Macho Man" Randy Savage for the WWF Heavyweight Championship, The Ultimate Warrior defends the Intercontinental Championship against Honky Tonk Man and The Fabulous Rougeaus take on The Hart Foundation. Let's get to the show.

Match 1

Jim Powers vs Conquistador 1

Jose Luis Rivera takes on Jim Powers in the opening contest. Powers gets the duke, not much to say on this one.

Winner: Powers

Match 2

Koko B Ware vs The Red Rooster (with Bobby Heenan)

The first matchup on this card with guys on opposite Survivor Series themes features Koko B Ware taking on The Red Rooster. Rooster got the win in this one.

Winner: The Red Rooster

Match 3

Bad News Brown vs "Jumping" Jim Brunzell

The second match featuring guys from opposite teams features Bad News Brown taking on Jim Brunzell. Brian Blair was gone so Brunzell would be going solo from here on in. Brown wins the match.

Winner: Bad News

Match 4

Dino Bravo (with Frenchy Martin) vs "Hacksaw" Jim Duggan

The third straight match with guys featured on opposite Survivor Series teams. This match would have been fun to see live, but no one wins. This was declared a no contest.

Winner: No one (No contest)

Match 5

The Fabulous Rougeau Brothers (Jacques and Raymond) with Jimmy Hart vs The Hart Foundation (Bret Hart and Jim Niedhart)

The fourth straight match with fallout from Survivor Series. Now that the British Bulldogs were gone, the Rougeaus could work in peace. Jim and Bret had no beef with the brothers in real life so the feud on screen continued. The Rougeaus won this one.

Winners: The Rougeau's

Match 6

Honky Tonk Man (with Jimmy Hart) vs The Ultimate Warrior for the WWF Intercontinental Championship

Warrior once again defends the strap against the Honky Tonk Man. They were definitely running the feuds into the ground at this point but it wouldn't be much longer until the mood shifts. Honky wins this one by count-out, but Warrior retains.

Winner: Honky Tonk by count-out (Warrior retains the IC title)

Match 7

Andre The Giant (with Bobby Heenan) vs "Macho Man" Randy Savage (with Miss Elizabeth) for the WWF Heavyweight Championship

Our main event features the monster Andre getting a title shot against the Macho Man. Savage win this by DQ to retain.

Winner: Savage by DQ (Still WWF Champion)

Even though the crew was spread thin, this was still a good card with three good matches to end it. Duggan on a house show would have been funny and it would have been interesting to see what the show looked like live. Tomorrow is going to be a very busy day as we have FIVE writeups to do. The syndicated episode of Superstars, house shows from Tulsa and Detroit, Saturday Night's Main Event that was taped the week before Survivor Series and a live Madison Square Garden house show. See you tomorrow for Superstars.

WWF 1988 Survivor Series (11/24/88)

We finally made it to the second annual Thanksgiving night tradition known as THE SURVIVOR SERIESSSSS. And what an absolute mess it was getting here. The Mega Powers had beaten The Mega Bucks at Summerslam but Andre The Giant had left Ted Dibiase behind to feud with Jake "The Snake" Roberts. Dibiase responded by recruiting the Twin Towers to take on the Mega Powers. Hercules stepped up for Hulk Hogan and Randy Savage after turning face when Dibiase attempted to buy him as a "slave", try getting away with that now. To round out the teams, Bobby "The Brain" Heenan loaned The Red Rooster and Haku to Dibiase while former Hogan butt-kisser Hillbilly Jim and Koko B Ware rounded out Team Powers. Speaking of Andre, he joined up with Mr. Perfect and Frenchy Martin's own Dino Bravo. Also on loan from Bobby Heenan are "Ravishing" Rick Rude and Harley Race. No longer the King as he lost the mantle to Haku. Jake Roberts had been feuding with Rick Rude for most of the year before transitioning to Andre and he's got "Hacksaw" Jim Duggan to counter Dino Bravo. Originally it was supposed to be Ken Patera, Tito Santana and Junkyard Dog to round out Team Roberts but JYD left. B Brian Blair of the Killer Bees replaced Dog and was featured on the VHS cover.....and then HE left. Scrambling for a body to throw in, Vince settled on jobber Scott Casey. Why he didn't use Lanny Poffo is anyone's guess but Casey is in. Then we get the Tag Team match with WWF Tag Team Champions Demolition teaming with Los Conquistadors, The Fabulous Rougeau Brothers, The Bolsheviks and The Brain Busters taking on the Powers of Pain, Hart Foundation, British Bulldogs, The Rockers and The Young Stallions. Finally Ultimate Warrior had upset Honky Tonk Man for the Intercontinental Championship at Summerslam and it spilled over to Survivor Series. Honky recruited mid-card heels Bad News Brown, Greg "The Hammer" Valentine, "The Outlaw" Ron Bass and "Dangerous" Danny Davis. Warrior recruited Brutus "The Barber" Beefcake who was locked in against Ron Bass. "The Rock" Don Muraco, The Blue Blazer and Sam Houston rounded out the team....until Muraco left. "Jumping" Jim Brunzell of the Killer Bees subbed in for Muraco and here we are. Who will survive? Let's find out.

SURVIVOR SERIES
RICHFIELD COLISEUM
RICHFIELD, OHIO
NOVEMBER 24, 1988

Ring Announcer: Howard Finkel

Commentators: Gorilla Monsoon and Jesse "The Body" Ventura

Monsoon and Ventura welcome us to tonight's festivities. Jesse is "The Pilgrim" tonight and we get right to our first match.

Match 1

WWF Intercontinental Champion Ultimate Warrior, Brutus "The Barber" Beefcake, Blue Blazer, Sam Houston and "Jumping" Jim Brunzell vs Honky Tonk Man, Greg "The Hammer" Valentine, "The Outlaw" Ron Bass, "Dangerous" Danny Davis and Bad News Brown (with Jimmy Hart)

As mentioned earlier, the feuds were Warrior/Honky, Brutus/Bass, Davis/Houston and the rest were fill ins. Bell's gone and it'll be Brutus and Valentine to start. Valentine backs Beefcake into the corner but misses an elbow smash. Brutus snatches the foot and unloads with right hands. Valentine sends Brutus off the ropes right into a knee by Danny Davis. Brunzell and Houston point from the outside but referee Dave Hebner is looking at clouds. Davis tags in and stomps away at Beefcake. Beefcake is sent off and he wraps up Davis in the sleeper right away. DANNY DAVIS falls asleep and he's gone just like that.

Brutus rolls Davis out of the ring and Valentine gets back in. Greg punches away at Brutus and hits a big elbow. Valentine hits a headbutt between the legs and works over the right leg. Ventura says smart move by Greg to soften up the legs. Beefcake powers out of a figure four attempt and rallies with right hands. Blue Blazer tags in and comes off the top rope with an axehandle. Blazer hits a hell of a head scissors and Ventura says Blazer never ceases to amaze him. Gotta love the Harts. Brunzell tags in to work over the arm as Ventura can't help but take a shot at his old AWA rival. Valentine scoop slams Brunzell but misses an elbow. Brunzell gets a one count and Bad News blind tags in. Brunzell hits a dropkick on Valentine and covers but Bad News snatches him from behind, only Jesse saw the tag. Valentine drops Brunzell with an elbow before he leaves. Bad News slugs away at Brunzell and headbutts him. Bad News kicks Brunzell in the chest and scoop slams him. Bad News delivers a forearms to the chest and heaves Jim into the corner. Brunzell tries to slug it out with Bad News as Gorilla calls the 39 year old Jim a "youngster". Bad News is whipped into the corner but Brunzell misses a charge. Bad News hits the Ghetto Blaster and covers for 1...2...3. Bye Bye JIM BRUNZELL.

Beefcake gets in and slugs away at Bad News before tagging in Sam Houston. Sam continues to work over the left arm but a charge in the corner eats boot. Monsoon says Warrior wants in as Bad News chops Houston down. Bad News drops a leg and nonchalant covers for 1...2...no. Sam fights back but eats a headbutt. Ventura says Bad News needs to tag and Monsoon reminds him he's not used to tagging. News sends Houston hard off the corner into a clothesline. Bad News tags in Valentine who clobbers Sam down. Bad News tags right back in and holds Houston only for Sam to move, Valentine hitting Bad News instead. Valentine begs off but Bad News is having none of it. They start shoving each other as Bass & Honky try to talk them down. BAD NEWS BROWN says screw it and leaves, getting counted out.

Houston drops Bass then O'Connor Rolls Valentine for 1..2...no. Houston goes for the sunset flip but gets punched for his trouble. Bass tags in for the first time and he scoop slams Sam. Bass drops an elbow and covers for a near fall. Houston does an O'Connor Roll on Bass for a deuce and rallies with right hands. Houston's charge in the corner eats boot as Ventura says Sam needs a tag. Bass hits a clothesline and covers for 1..2...no. Bass rams Houston face first in the mat and covers for a two count. Houston hits a second rope crossbody but only gets a two. Bass drops him with a forearm to the head and another elbow drop. Bass covers for two but Houston rallies with more right hands. Houston goes for a monkey flip in the corner but Bass counters with an Oklahoma Slam for 1...2..3 and SAM HOUSTON is done.

Warrior gets in for the first time and cleans house of all three remaining heels. Warrior choke bombs Honky and hits the shoulder tackle on him. Warrior slams bass and tags in Blazer. Warrior rocket launches Blazer (ironic) on Bass for 1..2...no. Honky blind tags in but apparently Blazer saw it and hits a crossbody for 1...2..no. Honky gets whipped into the corner and Blazer monkey flips him before delivering a dropkick. Valentine tags in and Blazer botches a leapfrog where Valentine headbutts him in the gonads. Blazer doesn't miss a beat, though and hits a gutwrench suplex. Blazer drops a knee and covers for a deuce as Ventura praises Blazer. Blazer backdrops Valentine and powerslams him. Blazer goes upstairs but Honky pushes him off. Valentine hooks in the figure four and BLUE BLAZER gives it up.

Down to 3 on 2, Beefcake checks on his fallen comrade and Valentine axehandles him from behind. Valentine pounds on Beefcake as Ventura brings up they were tag team partners. Damn right, the Dream Team.  Hammer tags in Bass who hits a running knee to the gut followed by a falling headbutt. Bass covers for a deuce as Honky tags in. Honky taunts the irate crowd and rams Brutus' head into the mat.  Honky rams Brutus' head into the boot of Bass. Valentine tags in as Ventura says Warrior couldn't come back down 3-1. The heels triple team Beefcake in the corner as Warrior gets caught by the ref trying to break it up. Honky goes for Shake Rattle & Roll but Beefcake backdrops him. Bass tags in and drops Brutus throat first across the top rope. He covers for two and Honky tags in. Honky comes off the top to a punch to the ribs. Brutus rallies with right hands and hits an atomic drop. Brutus clotheslines him down as Monsoon says he should go for a tag. Instead Brutus catches Honky with the sleeperhold until both tumble to the floor. Beefcake locks in the sleeper again but the ref is counting. Both HONKY TONK MAN and BRUTUS BEEFCAKE are counted out.

Down to Warrior against Valentine and Bass, both heels slug away on Warrior. They drop him with a double elbow and Valentine drops a forearm. Warrior walks into a double boot and Bass slugs away with forearms. Bass sends him into the corner and holds him as Valentine kicks away at him. Valentine's elbow does nothing as Warrior rallies with right hands. Valentine sends him into the boot of Bass. Bass tags in and go for another double clothesline but Warrior ducks under it. Warrior blasts both men with a double clothesline of his own. Warrior hits a running axehandle to drop Bass and goes for the cover. Hebner literally jumps over Valentine for 1...2....3 and RON BASS is gone.

Valentine drops an elbow on Warrior as Ventura says Greg was legal, that shouldn't have counted. Monsoon says too bad. Warrior hits another running axehandle to Valentine and covers for 1...2...3 to win the match. Warrior is the sole survivor. Decent opener that showcased some of the high flyers like Houston & Blazer and kept Bad News' heat intact since he still hadn't lost on TV yet. Warrior was in the match maybe two minutes but kayfabe wise, that was smart on his part. Say goodbye to Brunzell as the Killer Bees were done and this would be the last PPV appearances for Blue Blazer, Sam Houston and Danny Davis as wrestlers although Davis and Blazer would return eventually in different roles/personnas.

Time of match: 17:51

Winner: Ultimate Warrior

After the match we go to the highlights of Warrior winning and then hype for the tag team match. We get right to it.

Match 2

The Bolsheviks (Boris Zhukov & Nikolai Volkoff with Slick), The Fabulous Rougeau Brothers (Jacques & Raymond with Jimmy Hart), Los Conquistadors (Jose Estrada & Jose Luis Rivera), The Brainbusters (Arn Anderson & Tully Blanchard with Bobby Heenan) and WWF Tag Team Champions Demolition (Ax and Smash with Mr. Fuji) vs The Young Stallions (Jim Powers & Paul Roma), The Rockers (Shawn Michaels & Marty Jannetty), The Hart Foundation (Bret Hart and Jim Niedhart), The British Bulldogs (Davey Boy Smith & Dynamite Kid) and The Powers of Pain (The Warlord & The Barbarian)

Lots to unpack here. Its the ppv debuts for The Brainbusters, Los Conquistadors & The Rockers plus a real life feud that's about to come to an end which I'll get to later. Ventura calls it a sea of humanity and its hard to argue with 20 guys in the ring and 4 managers outside. Niedhart leads a cheer in the corner with all the faces while the managers converse outside. Davey Boy starts with Estrada (I think) and Davey headbutts him into the corner where Jacques tags in. Davey press slams Jacques into Raymond. Shawn Michaels tags in and so does Nikolai Volkoff. Volkoff drives Shawn to the corner where Boris Zhukov tags in to do some damage. Shawn backflips off the second rope out of trouble and locks in an arm ringer. Marty Jannetty tags in for a double team and Ax tags in. Ax clubs away at Marty and Ventura says The Rockers weakness is they don't have the strength to match bigger teams. Ax rams Marty head first into the foot of Raymond. Arn Anderson tags in and Ventura gives him very high praise by calling him "a wrestler's wrestler". Hard to argue that. Arn eats a backdrop and a dropkick by Marty then tags out to Tully Blanchard. They slug it out and Marty hits an atomic drop. and Tully gets right hands from all the faces before stumbling into Jacques Rogeau, who tags in. Jacques misses a second rope crossbody and Marty covers for a deuce. Dynamite Kid tags in and here we go....For those that don't know, Dynamite and Davey had been ribbing people for awhile but another prolific ribber joined the ranks, Mr. Perfect. Perfect had ribbed Dynamite by cutting up his clothes but Dynamite for whatever reason thought Jacques Rougeau did it. One day in Miami, Dynamite sucker punched Jacques while Raymond was on crutches nursing an injury. Dynamite beat the crap out of Jacques and taunted Raymond before leaving. Shortly before Survivor Series Jacques walked up to Dynamite and punched him full force in the face with a roll of quarters, knocking his teeth out. Amazingly Dynamite didn't go down so Jacques kept at it with a now healthy Raymond standing guard making sure Davey Boy or The Harts didn't join in. Pat Patterson broke it up eventually and because Dynamite was such an asshole, and due to Vince McMahon didn't think he had it in him, Jacques was not reprimanded. This led to the Bulldogs wanting out of WWF with Dynamite's pride hurt. Here its all business with Dynamite dropping Jacques with a headbutt. Dynamite hits the snap suplex and covers for two before tagging in Jim Powers. Raymond tags in and Dynamite tags back in. Raymond eats a shoulderblock but Ray gets a knee to the ribs. Dynamite second rope sunset flips Raymond for 1...2...no. Powers tags back in but so does Boris Zhukov.  Jim hits a dropkick and rams his head into the buckle before Smash tags in. Smash rams him into the foot of Nikolai and Jacques tags in to hit a dropkick. He covers for a one and Jim drives to tag in The Hitman. Bret Hart eats a back elbow smash and gets covered for one. Ray tags in and puts his head down, Bret catching him with a small package for 1...2...3 and THE FABULOUS ROUGEAU BROTHERS are gone five and a half minutes in. The rumor was they went first so they could leave the building with no further incident with the Bulldogs.

Raymond kicks the rope as he and Jacques leave. Nikolai gets in and Paul Roma comes off the top with a punch. Roma leaps from the mat to the top rope to nail Nikolai with a crossbody for 1...2...no. That was nice. Niedhart tags in and dropkicks Nikolai down. I don't ever remember Niedhart doing that, everyone's pulling out all the stops. Smash tags in and gets a boot to the head. Barbarian tags in and he slugs away at Smash. Jose Luis Rivera tags in and punches away at Barbarian. Barb fights back and hits a big boot. Warlord tags in to punch away at Jose. Bret Hart tags in to punch Jose into the corner where Smash tags in. Smash and Ax double team Bret after Ax tags in. Bret sends Ax into the corner but a charge eats boot. Tully tags in to come off the top with an elbow smash. Tully whips Bret into the corner but a charge eats clothesline. Ax and Shawn Michaels tag in....yes Bret and Shawn were on the same team, shocking. Shawn rallies with right hands but Tully grabs his leg, allowing Demolition to get in for the double team. Smash catches Shawn's crossbody and places him on the top rope in his corner. Him and Nikolai pound on Shawn before Nikolai tags in. Nikolai hits the backbreaker but doesn't cover. He drops Shawn with a knee to the mid-section and Tully tags in. Tully tags in Arn for the spinebuster and he covers for 1...2...NOOOO. Shawn kicks out of the spinebuster as Jose Estrada tags in. Estrada slams Shawn but he's too close to the corner, Marty tagging in to waffle Jose. Marty hits a powerslam and a right hand that sends him into the corner, Jose Luis Rivera tagging in. Marty flips over an arm drag and scoop slams him, covering for 1..2..no. Nikolai tags in and gets dropkicked for his trouble. Marty covers but Nikolai bench presses him off. Roma tags in and they slug it out before Davey tags in. Davey slams Nikolai and covers but he gets bench pressed off as well. Tully tags in and backdrops Davey before dropping an elbow on him. Tully misses one and is headbutted by Davey. Jose Rivera tags in and so does Warlord. Rivera's punches had no effect and is press slammed for his trouble. Ax tags in and the crowd pops. They slug it out as Ax gets the upper hand with a thumb to the eye. He tags in Smash and he punches away at him. Warlord catches the foot and trips him up before tagging in Barbarian. Barbarian hits a running knee and another big boot. Smash doesn't go down and they slug it out again. Tully tags in and comes off the top with an elbow. Tully is press slammed off the top rope and Niedhart tags in. Niedhart hits a powerslam and covers for a deuce before Dynamite tags in. Kid and Niedhart double headbutts Tully but Tully recovers enough to shitcan him. Tully tags in Arn who hits a forearm to the ribs. Arn stomps away before Rivera tags in. He punches away then Bors Zhukov tags in. Boris misses a kneedrop and here comes Powers. Powers hits a backdrop and rams his head in the buckle. Powers hits a clothesline and goes for a top rope crossbody. Boris rolls through it and hooks the leg for 1...2....3 to eliminate Powers and THE YOUNG STALLIONS 15 minutes into it.

Zhukov is staggered and Michaels hits the ring to drop him with a back elbow smash. Shawn scoop slams him and hits the second rope fistdrop, covering for a deuce. Barbarian tags in and hits a shouldertackle that sends Boris into the corner. Tully tags in and fairy walks over to tag in Nikolai, classic heat move. Monsoon says he should have made contact and Nikolai headbutts Barbarian. He rams Barb's head into Blanchard's boot, making the tag to Ax. Ax chops away at Barb and beats him down. Ventura says this is the first time he's seen Barbarian manhandled. Jose Estrada and Nikolai make frequent tags to wear down Barb but Barb fires back with a big boot on Volkoff. Shawn comes in but so does Boris. Shawn is sent off the ropes but Marty blind tags in. Shawn hits Zhukov with a punch to the ribs and Jannetty sunset flips Boris for 1....2....3 to eliminate THE BOLSHEVIKS.

Arn Anderson runs in and punches away at Jannetty before Blanchard tags in. The heels nail Jannetty but he almost pins Rivera with another sunset flip. Rivera tags Estrada who backdrops Marty. Smash tags in and he beats down Marty, making the tag to Ax. Ax scoop slams Marty and rams him into Anderson's boot. Anderson tags in but Marty rams his head into the mat. Davey tags in and so does Rivera who eats a backdrop. Blanchard tags in and immediately begs off. Bret and Marty have a chat on the apron as Davey is front flipped into the corner. Tully distracts the referee so Ax can snap Davey off the top rope. Smash tags in and punches away at him before applying a chinlock. The first "rest hold" applied all match. Rivera tags in with right hands before Estrada comes off the top with a big punch. Estrada's charge in the corner eats boot and Niedhart tags in. He throws Estrada into Bret's boot and Bret hits a second rope elbow. Niedhart covers for 1..2...noooo. Shawn tags in and the Rockers double team Estrada until Dynamite tags in. He hits the snap suplex and the second rope knee. He covers for 1..2...no. Even Ventura is surprised he kicked out. Barbarian tags in with a clothesline and a powerslam. Barbarian drops an elbow and a headbutt that knocks Estrada into Rivera. Tully tags in and gets a quick tip from Heenan. Tully sucker kicks Barbarian and Ax tags in to pound away on him. Ax and Smash both hammer away as Ax tells the ref to stick it. Smash locks in a chinlock and taunts the irate crowd. Barbarian powers out of it but gets a kne to the back. The heels one by one tag in to punch away at Barbarian but Rivera gets caught. Ax tags in with Rivera in mid-air as Jose is atomic dropped. Ax clobbers Barbarian from behind and its the Brainbusters turn to double team, until Barbarian kicks Arn in the head. Jannetty tags in with a dropkick and a back elbow smash. Niedhart tags in but gets an elbow to the head. Tully tags in and comes off the top with a bodypress for 1..2...no, Niedhart bench presses him off. Niedhart suplexes Tully and tags Bret back in. Bret runs through his offense and rams Tully's head in the corner. Tully whips Bret in the corner who flips over him. Bret hits a german suplex and the referee counts 1....2....Tully's arm comes up....3! Classic spot as Bret thinks he got him but no, THE HART FOUNDATION is eliminated. Jesse says he saw the shoulder come up and even outside ref Tim White comes in to tell Bret the bad news. Bret and Jim are gone but Dynamite hits a tombstone piledriver on Tully and covers for 1...2...no. The Bulldogs hit a double forearm and Shawn Michaels tags in. Arn runs in for the double team and Marty Jannetty comes in to cut him off. All four men brawl and Arn shoves Hebner away. Shawn pushes White and catches Marty mid-air. The Rockers hit the double superkick to send the Busters out but Hebner's had it up to here with them. THE ROCKERS and THE BRAINBUSTERS are all disqualified 29 minutes in.

The Rockers and Busters brawl to the back with Smash getting a chinlock on Dynamite. Smash is dropped by Dynamite and covered for 1..2...no. Estrada tags in and he gets a knee to the ribs. Rivera comes off the top with a forearm smash as Ventura says with only four teams left, its easier to call the match. Rivera misses a second rope swanton and Warlord tags in. Ventura says with three teams gone in under two minutes the ring looks practically vacant. Warlord slams Rivera's head into the buckle as Barbarian tags in. Barbarian hits a big boot that sends Rivera into Estrada. Davey boy tags in to hit the delayed suplex on Estrada as Ventura asks how to tell the Conquistadors apart. One's taller than the other, according to Monsoon. Ax gets a tag who runs into a crucifix by Davey for 1...2..no. Ax punches away at Davey and Smash tags in. Smash is whipped into the corner as Ventura wonders how the Conquistadors are still there. Davey armdrags Smash and locks in an arm ringer. Dynamite tags in and they double headbutt Smash down. Ax tags in and clubs away on Dynamite until Kid drops him with a lariat. Davey tags in as does Rivera. Davey press slams Rivera and goes for the running powerslam, hitting it. He doesn't cover and instead tags in Barbarian. Barbarian and Davey double headbutt Rivera into his corner, making the tag to Ax. Ventura says that was a big mistake by the face team and I agree, they had Rivera dead to rights. Ax stomps away at Barbarian and tags in Smash, who heaves Barbarian outside of the ring. Ventura wants some odds on Los Conquistadors surviving and Monsoon says 100 to 1. Speaking of which, the Conquistadors double team Barbarian until Barb catches Estrada. Davey tags in for the double elbow and Davey covers for a deuce. Dynamite tags in who hits a gut wrench suplex. He covers for 1...2..no. A headbutt and a nonchalant cover gets two and Ventura says Dynamite should know better. Warlord tags in and he clubs away at Estrada, hitting a scoop slam and a leg drop. He refuses to cover and instead tags in Dynamite. Both Monsoon and Ventura berate the faces for not going for the pin and sure enough Estrada boots Dynamite, tagging in Smash. Smash clubs away at Kid but a charge in the corner eats boot. Dynamite hits the snap suplex and goes upstairs. He goes for the diving headbutt but misses. Smash hits a lariat and covers for 1..2....3 to eliminate THE BRITISH BULLDOGS thirty-six minutes into it.

Barbarian slugs away at Smash but Smash drives him into his own corner. The Conquistadors doublet eam Barbarian but he powers Rivera into his corner where Warlord tags in. Warlord chops away Rivera in the corner but misses a charge. Ax tags in and clubs away on him, hitting a snap mare. Ax continues to club away on him and taunts the irate crowd. Ventura marvels at the Conquistadors are still there and Fuji outside of the ring should be pleased that this is just about over. Smash tags in and Fuji hops up on the apron waiving his cane for absolutely no reason. Smash gives him a nod and tags in Rivera. Rivera and Estrada work over Warlord as Fuji is visibly frustrated. Even Ventura the heel supporter doesn't know what his problem is. Ax tags in and works over the left arm. Ax locks in an arm-ringer and tags in Smash. Smash punches away at Warlord as Fuji hops up again waiving his cane. Smash nods at him again and works over the left arm. Referee Earl Hebner tells Fuji to get lost as Warlord gets to his feet. Monsoon says Fuji wants to take a whack at someone but Ventura says he's more of a distraction than anything. Warlord drops Smash with a shoulderblock and runs off the ropes, but Smash ducks under. Smash hits a clothesline and looks over at Ax to say this one's over. Smash goes for another clothesline but Fuji yanks the middle rope down, causing Smash to go flying outside. What the hell was that about? Ventura says Fuji did that on purpose. Monsoon tries to say Smash might have slipped but once again heel supporter Ventura says he saw it. Hebner completes the count and DEMOLITION is eliminated.

Ax gets right in Fuji's face and confronts him. Fuji says he doesn't care what Ax says, he's the boss. He keeps whacking Ax with the cane and Ax finally has enough and shoves him. Ax turns around and Fuji hits him in the back. Smash from behind grabs Fuji and tosses him to Ax. Ax scoop slams him much to the crowd's delight. Demolition leaves as Ventura says we've seen a falling out. Rivera gets in as somehow, someway the Conquistadors have, in fact, made it to the final fall. All of a sudden Barbarian and Warlord go outside and tend to Mr. Fuji. They help him up and brush him off as Monsoon says something stinks here. The PoP damn near get counted out pulling Fuji to their corner but Barbarian gets in just in time. Rivera and Estrada make frequent tags to pound on Barbarian before Estrada goes off the ropes....tripped up by Mr. Fuji. Barbarian hits the falling headbutt and covers for 1..2....3 to win the match. The crowd pops thinking this was a face turn by Mr. Fuji. They put Fuji on their shoulders and the crowd pops.....whoops! From a match standpoint, that was a lot better than last year's tag match. The top teams going in were Demolition and PoP and they were there in the end...sort of.

Time of match: 42:25

Winners: The Warlord and The Barbarian

After the match, Demolition comes back to the ring. Ax and Smash clean house with scoop slams and clotheslines. Fuji and the PoP leave as Demolition's theme hits. Ventura has no idea what's going on as Demolition starts raising each other's arms. Demolition leaves and we go to the replay where Ventura correctly points out Fuji pulled the rope down on purpose. We then show Fuji hitting Ax and getting slammed as a result. Monsoon says this didn't happen overnight and Ventura agrees. From a kayfabe standpoint this was a complete and total mess of a double turn. If they wanted to book Fuji was fed up with Demolition, they should have been getting dominated by the PoP with Fuji screaming at them. Instead Demolition was in control and even Ventura the heel was telling Fuji to get lost on commentary. The PoP going out to rescue Fuji made sense for them in the storyline as they sucked as babyfaces, but they could have done it better. Fans had begun to cheer Demolition so Vince was giving them what they wanted, much to Ax's chagrin (see Guest Booker: Bill Eadie from Kayfabe Commentaries).

We go to Sean Mooney in the back with Bad News Brown. Mooney calls him an independent soul and asks what happened out there. Bad News says the beer bellied sharecroppers tried to conspire against him by having his own teammate attack him. Brown says everyone wants to beat him but it won't happen and "Survival" Series means nothing to him. Brown says he's been a survivor all his life and he wants the WWF Championship belt. Mooney asks why he deserves a title shot and Brown says Mooney has been on Mars. Brown says he's beaten everyone he's faced so far and won the Wrestlemania Battle Royal. Mooney says President Jack Tunney should be able to give him a shot and Bad News says he's been after Tunney for a shot but he won't answer. News says eventually Tunney will have to face him in person. Mooney asks how the title shot would go with Elizabeth in his corner. Bad News says Macho Man Randy Savage has a skirt in his corner and he needs nobody. Mooney sends it back to Monsoon and Ventura who confirm Bad News is undefeated. Hard to argue Bad News here. He was Stone Cold ten years before Stone Cold, he just happened to be the wrong color for Vince and had just turned 45 years old. In the era of "Hogan must pose", having a 45 year old black heel world champion wasn't going to fly in marketing. Too bad, Bad News was the perfect gimmick.

Monsoon says Bad News is going about the title shot the wrong way but he still deserves a shot. We go to "Mean" Gene Okerlund who's with Mr. Fuji and the Powers of Pain. Gene asks what in the world was that about and Fuji says he made Demolition but their britches got too big. Fuji says he's been searching for someone to take out Demolition and he found them in the Powers of Pain. Gene tries to reason with Barbarian that Fuji can't be trusted but he just says they lost the Master and they're gonna lose the titles next. Okerlund says Demolition carried him and Fuji says HE made them and they will pay. Gene asks Warlord what he thinks and he says Demolition wouldn't listen to Fuji but they will. Again, great promo if this had been building for a while....but it didn't. This was literally one minute Demolition and the Conquistadors are beating the crap out of the Powers of Pain and then the next, Fuji pulls the rope down and says he's been wanting to do this for a while. They should have had the PoP in control the whole time but oh well. To be fair, Demolition could talk on their own and the PoP couldn't, hence putting Fuji with them made sense. We just got there the wrong way.

Monsoon hypes up the final two matches featuring Team Roberts vs Team Andre and this is horribly mismatched in favor of the heel team. Then we have Team Mega Powers vs Team Twin Towers which is a little bit more balanced. We go to Mean Gene with Team Andre with all the heels and managers glad handing each other. Bobby "The Brain" Heenan names all five of Team Jake and Andre grabs Mean Gene with Bobby right on cue saying Andre's hands will be around the neck of Roberts. Heenan says he hopes Jake had a nice Thanksgiving because it might be his last. Dino Bravo with no accent says 7 people behind him (Frenchy Martin and Heenan included) are going to make the best of it. He wants Hacksaw Jim Duggan and he wants to shame all the Americans. Rick Rude calls Mean Gene a divothead and praises how his partners and him will celebrate turkey day the ravishing way. Mr. Perfect says the fivesome here is the five best in the world, the perfect combo. Gene says Damien the snake is hungry and Andre says he doesn't care about Damien, he won last year and he's doing it again this year. Wow, Harley and Frenchy get the shaft. Still, even without the managers you got some of the best talkers in Rude and Perfect and guys that get right to the point like Bravo & Andre. Heenan makes it that much better.

Back to Monsoon who says there's no lack of confidence in that team as the cameraman shows some of the fans at ringside. Ventura says he's not afraid of snakes and he could use a new pair of boots. Back to Mean Gene who's with Team Mega Powers, Miss Elizabeth and Frankie the Bird. "Macho Man" Randy Savage low key says this team is electric. Koko B Ware says they're hot and they won't lose. Hillbilly Jim says God bless America and the bad guys will feel the heat. Hercules says he doesn't have to be alone anymore, he tells Ted Dibiase to welcome to the jungle. He then says they have fun and games, they have everything he wants and they have the names....just kidding. Hulk Hogan says the 24 inch pythons has ruled for five years and there's no weak links in the chain. Hulk says Hercules stood in the Pacific Ocean and had a big seance where they were blessed. Hulk says they all have dollar signs on their heads and Hulkamania will run wild on them. Not exactly the coke fueled, testosterone filled mayhem last year's Hulkamania promo was but still fun. On to the next match.

Match 3

Jake "The Snake" Roberts, "Hacksaw" Jim Duggan, Ken Patera, Tito Santana and Scott Casey vs Andre The Giant, Dino Bravo, Mr. Perfect, "Ravishing" Rick Rude and "Handsome" Harley Race (with Frenchy Martin and Bobby "The Brain" Heenan)

Let's get the elephant in the room out of the way early. Why Scott Casey the glorified jobber? Junkyard Dog was originally supposed to be in the match back in September but he left. B Brian Blair of the Killer Bees replaced him but he left shortly before the Survivor Series. Rather than turn to Lanny Poffo who wasn't quite the genius yet, Vince stuck Scott Casey in there. From JYD to Blair to Casey talk about DING, Ding, ding. Duggan uses his 2x4 as a rifle as the bell rings.  Rude starts with Patera as a tribute to last year and Ken throws him across the ring. Ventura sings Ken's praises as Monsoon said Patera retired him. Dino tags in and they shoulderblock each other. Bravo locks in an arm-ringer and Perfect tags in with a punch off the top. Patera rams Perfect into his corner where Jake Roberts tags in to work over the left arm. Tito Santana comes in and Perfect shoulderblocks him down, but eats an arm drag. Tito scoop slams Perfect but Curt rallies in the corner. An elbow stuns Tito and Bravo tags in. Dino chokes him in the corner as Roberts tags in. Scott Casey comes into work over Bravo and Ventura praises Scott's physique. Yeah he looks gassed up too. Bravo hits an inverted atomic drop and tags in Harley Race. Race hits the belly to belly suplex then drops a knee on him. Ventura says nobody drops a knee better than Race, a young Paul Lesveque would agree. Rude tags in and scoop slams Casey. Rude overs for a deuce and rams Casey into Andre's knee. Perfect tags in and clotheslines Casey before stomping away. Casey headbutts him and Santana tags in. Santana holds him for Patera to tag in for the double elbow smash. Patera tags Duggan in for the first time and he clobbers away at Perfect. Duggan comes out of the corner with a clothesline and taunts Andre. Perfect gets a thumb to the eye much to Jesse's delight but Duggan winds up for a big right hand that sends Perfect flying over the top rope. Andre tries to grab Duggan but misses. Casey tags in and one arm slams Perfect before dropping a leg. Perfect hangs on to the leg and Rude tags in. Monsoon puts over the upcoming Royal Rumble on January 15th as Rude forearms Casey, dropping him with a clothesline. Rude taunts the crowd and punches away on Casey. Rude misses a charge in the corner and Casey tags in Santana. Tito hits a flying chop and covers for 1...2...no. That wasn't the flying jalapeno. Duggan tags in and elbows Rude in the back. Duggan misses a clothesline but catches Rude in a spinning slam. Duggan misses an elbow but they collide in the middle of the ring. Ventura says Rude got the worst of it and Duggan hilariously dives into his corner to tag in Patera. Patera scoop slams Rude and elbows him in the neck. Patera hits a cradle for 1..2..no. Patera sends Rude off but a charge eats boot. Rude catches Patera with the Rude Awakening and covers for 1...2....3 to eliminate KEN PATERA 8 minutes in. Say bye bye to Patera as this was his last ppv appearance for the company.

Casey jumps in but Rude throws him into the corner. Harley Race tags in and catches Casey with a dropkick. Race misses an elbow drop but still puts Casey in the corner. Dino Bravo tags in and Casey hits a backslide for 1...2...no. Casey goes for the O'Connor Roll but Bravo blocks it. Casey charges but Bravo catches him with the sidewalk slam. Bravo covers for 1..2....3 and SCOTT CASEY is done 9 minutes in. This was also his last ppv as well.

Down to 5 on 3, Santana charges in but he clobbers Bravo with a big right. Perfect tags in as Ventura says its not looking good for Jake's team. Tito rallies with right hands and a small package for a deuce. Duggan tags in and elbows Perfect but puts his head down. Perfect kicks Duggan and Duggan stomps around the ring. He punches Perfect but Andre snatches him for the big headbutt. Monsoon says they're in real trouble if Hacksaw is eliminated. Rude tags in but eats a clothesline. Santana tags in as Race enters as well. Race hits a big left hand and sends him into the buckle. Bravo tags in to work over Tito but a shoulderblock goes nowhere. Tito hits a crossbody for 1...2..no. Bravo rallies with strikes but a charge eats sunset flip for 1..2...no. Race tags in and piledrives Tito, covering for 1..2...no. Race hits a left arm clothesline and covers for 1...2..nope, gotta hook the leg. Tito ducks under a clothesline and hits the flying jalapeno. He lands on top of Race for 1..2.....3 and HARLEY RACE is out 15 minutes in

Andre himself gets in and grabs Santana. Ventura hilariously shouts "ANDRE'S GOT CHICO!" Andre chokes Tito against the ropes and hits a big right hand followed by a chop. Andre sits on Tito as Santana tries to fight back. Andre chops and chokes him again. Santana goes for a sunset flip...is he out of his mind? Andre simply sits on Tito for 1....2...3 and TITO SANTANA is eliminated almost 17 minutes in.

Duggan gets in a three point stance and hits the clothesline to tie Andre up in the top rope. Duggan and Roberts double team Andre as the heel team tries to get Andre free. Roberts punches down Rude and chokes Andre while he's still tied up. Ventura says Jake is lucky he's tied up but Heenan gets Andre loose. He punches Roberts away and Rude tags in to send Jake into the ropes. Rude taunts the irate crowd and whips him into the other corner. Rude sends Jake into the boot of Perfect. Perfect chops away and kicks at Roberts. Andre kicks him again and Perfect slingshots Jake into the bottom rope. Perfect and Roberts slug it out but Bravo tags in. Roberts slugs away at Bravo and hits the left arm clothesline. Jake goes for the DDT but Rude clotheslines him down from the apron. Rude tags in legally as Ventura says Roberts & Duggan have to eliminate someone. Rude stalks Roberts and clocks him with a big right hand. Bravo and Perfect clap for Rude and Rick covers Jake for 1....2..no, foot on the rope. Ventura says if Jake is eliminated, Duggan would run for cover. Monsoon "HE WILL NOT!" Bravo tags in and hits a scoop slam on Roberts but misses the elbow drop. He misses another one and Duggan gets the hot tag. Duggan beats the crap out of Bravo and backdrops him. Duggan rams Bravo into the corner as Ventura reiterates they have to get rid of someone. Duggan clotheslines Bravo and calls for the 3 point stance. Frenchy Martin grabs the leg and pulls him outside. Monsoon says that should be a disqualification...for who? Martin is a manager. Duggan grabs the 2x4 like an idiot and waffles Bravo with it in the ring. JIM DUGGAN is disqualified just over 23 minutes into it. Duggan visibly says "Bullshit!", what? You clocked a guy with a foreign object.

Roberts should be furious with Duggan since its now 4 on 1 but instead he drops knees on Bravo. He covers for 1.....2...no. Perfect tags in and Ventura points out Jake took a beating earlier and he's all by himself. Well he's not running away but Jesse tells Monsoon not to run down there to help him. Jake punches away at Perfect and drops him with a left arm clothesline. The crowd chants for DDT and Jake gives the signal for it. Perfect and Roberts exchange punches before Jake drops him with a knee lift. Ventura says Perfect should tag out and he does, Bravo comes in. Essentially its 6 on 1 out there with Frenchy and Heenan. Monsoon screams that the referees should have tossed Martin by now. Bravo wins a game of mercy but misses the elbow drop. Rude tags in and Roberts bails to the outside. Smart move by Jake to regroup with no one left to tag. Back inside Rude gets a thumb to the eye and turnbuckle head slams. Rude slugs away at Jake and he staggers right into a right hand by Bravo. Rude hits a stomach breaker as Ventura says he should go for the cover. Rude slaps Jake and taunts him before landing another right hand. Rude sends Jake into the corner and Ventura says if Rude gets the pin, Cheryl Roberts will leave Jake for Rude. Rick scoop slams Jake and locks in a bear hug. Jake powers out of it but Rude hits a snap mare. Rude hits a top rope fist drop and gyrates over him. Rude slowly walks over to tag Andre but Jake cuts him off by pulling his tights down. Rude staggers right into the DDT to a huge pop. Jake covers for 1....2...3, bye bye RICK RUDE just under 31 minutes into it.

Andre gets in and punches away at Roberts. Andre chokes Jake in the corner....and chokes....and chokes....and chokes...and bites....and chokes....and chokes. Finally referee Joey Marella has enough and ANDRE THE GIANT has been disqualified just under 32 minutes into it. Just like that Roberts has cut the deficit in half.

Andre throws Jake into the center of the ring. Perfect gets in and covers for 1..2....3 to win the match. Smart move by Curt Hennig to take advantage there. Perfect and Bravo survive then they celebrate with Martin in the ring. Andre and Heenan nod from the outside. Jake grabs Damien and throws him in the ring. Andre's gaggle of goons retreats as Jake and Damien stand tall in the ring. Not the best match but you had guys like Patera, Casey and Race that didn't belong or on their way out, Bravo & Andre who could barely move and Duggan who was a pure brawler. Perfect keeps his heat by surviving.

Time of match: 32:08

Winners: Dino Bravo and Mr. Perfect

We got to Mean Gene with Team Twin Towers. Slick says him and Heenan have come up with a system of elimination that will not be denied. Ted Dibiase says Hercules is a slave and the champagne and caviar is on ice after the match. Akeem says they're the survivors and Heenan says he's showing proper respect to King Haku. Mean Gene asks Red Rooster if he can talk and Rooster says he can talk and wrestle too. Haku says they'll all bow to the king. Big Bossman says he's a survivor and he wants Hulk Hogan. Hook from AEW is 25 years old as of today, that's how old Bossman was here. Bossman says he's gonna hurt Hulk real bad and leave him laying. On to the final match.

Match 4

Akeem, Big Bossman, "Million Dollar Man" Ted Dibiase, The Red Rooster and King Haku (with Bobby Heenan, Slick and Virgil) vs Koko B Ware, Hercules, Hillbilly Jim, Hulk Hogan and WWF Heavyweight Champion "Macho Man" Randy Savage (with Miss Elizabeth)

Randy Savage comes out to his music along with Jim, Hercules and Koko but Hogan gets his own entrance...of course. Dibiase starts out with Savage and Randy drops him with a shoulderblock, but Savage runs into a clothesline. Dibiase works Randy in the corner but misses a charge. Randy slugs Dibiase and drops him with a left arm clothesline. Hercules tags in and Dibiase immediately retreats outside after tagging Red Rooster. Hercules chases him out of the ring and back inside where Rooster catches him with a jawbreaker. Rooster goes for a sharpshooter but Herc blocks it. Hercules drops him with a clothesline and tags in Koko. Ware lands a headbutt but a charge in the corner eats boot. Akeem tags in and he clubs away on Koko. Haku tags in and drops him with a big chop followed by a scoop slam. Haku misses a legdrop and Koko tags Hercules back in. Herc and Haku slug it out and drops him with a right hand. Hulk Hogan tags in who punches away at Haku, dropping him with a clothesline. Hogan drops a series of elbows and rams him into the knee of Jim. Hillbilly tags in and they double big boot Haku down. Jim covers for a 1 count and he headbutts him,....which Haku no-sells. Akeem tags in to waffle Jim then Red Rooster tags back in. Rooster foolishly tries for a scoop slam but Jim counters with a scoop slam of his own. Jim teases booting Rooster in the nads and just kicks his leg instead. Koko tags back in for a powerslam, but the cover only gets two. Rooster tries ramming Koko's head into the corner which he no-sells. Koko is whipped in the corner and fakes out Rooster on a crossbody, then hits a top rope dropkick. Koko covers for 1....2...no. Koko tags Hogan in and Rooster looks like a deer in the headlights. Hogan hits the big boot and tags in Savage. Hogan slams Rooster and Savage hits the top rope elbow. He covers for 1...2...3 and RED ROOSTER is done 6 minutes in.

The face team chases the heels outside as the crowd pops like crazy. They all celebrate in the ring as Monsoon says they got a long way to go. Ventura says he'd have cheapshotted the Rooster and Monsoon would have too, but Gorilla rebukes him. Heenan screams at Rooster to get lost and Akeem starts asking Bobby what happened. Heenan "Should NEVER have been in that position." Slick "I told you that guy was no good." Ventura tries to bring up how Oklahoma Sooners football coach Barry Switzer yells at his players...well he didn't yell enough because they had just lost to Nebraska five days prior to Survivor Series that knocked them out of Orange Bowl contention. Haku tags in and drives Randy to his own corner where Hogan tags in. Haku gets a thrust to the throat and hits a dropkick. Haku pounds on Hulk until Hogan clotheslines him into the corner. Hulk scoop slams Haku and Hercules tags in. Herc drops him with a clothesline and covers for 1..2...no. Herc punches away at Haku until Haku hits a back suplex. Akeem tags in and scoop slams Hercules, but misses the big elbow. Hillbilly Jim tags in and punches away at Akeem followed by a headbutt. Jim gets a head scissors in the corner and stuns him with a big boot. Jim goes for a bearhug but Akeem rams him into the corner. Jim whips him into the other corner but gets dropped with a clothesline. Akeem hits the big splash and covers for 1...2...3 and HILLBILLY JIM is eliminated just under 10 minutes in.

Slick celebrates outside as Koko dropkicks Akeem in the back. Hulk tags in and he rams Akeem in the corner. Ventura says its a pet peeve for a guy to win a fall and start celebrating because another guy is about to come in. That would prove fatal later but for now, Savage tags in who comes off the top with an axehandle smash. Savage stuns Akeem with a series of elbows and Hercules tags in. Herc punches away at him but Akeem won't go down. Herc sends Akeem off and stuns him with an elbow smash. Koko tags in and punches away at him then dropkicks Akeem in the corner. Koko misses a corner splash and Bossman tags in for the first time. Bossman hits the Bossman Slam and covers for 1...2...3 to eliminate KOKO B WARE just under 12 minutes into it.

Slick says "That's two" outside as Hogan sneaks up on Bossman. The crowd pops as we finally get the showdown. Bossman gets a thumb to the eye but Hogan rallies with right hands and a clothesline. Bossman won't go off his feet until Hogan atomic drops him into the corner. Savage and Herc slugs at Bossman and Hogan hits a clothesline in the corner. Hulk hits the big boot and calls for a slam. Hogan scoop slams Bossman but runs right into a spinebuster. Bossman tags in Akeem and now the Twin Towers double team Hogan with a double back elbow. Haku tags in and punches away at Hulk. Haku drops him with a throat thrust and covers for a deuce before Bossman tags back in. Bossman slugs away at the crowd cheers for Hogan to rally. Bossman jumps on Hogan on the second rope then chokes him with his boot. Dibiase tags in and he kicks away at Hulk as well. Dibiase drops Hulk with a left arm clothesline and a fistdrop. He hits two more fistdrops and covers for 1...2...no. Monsoon calls Dibiase "excellence of execution" as Hogan gets up waiving his finger. Hogan hits an atomic drop on Dibiase and tags in Hercules. The crowd pops as Dibiase begs off. Hercules pulverizes Dibiase all over the ring. Herc gets tripped up by Virgil and Hercules pulls him onto the apron. Dibiase from behind rolls him up for 1...2....3 and HERCULES is eliminated 16:35 into it.

Things look bleak for the Mega Powers here down 4 to 2 as Dibiase celebrates in the ring. Hercules then gets  a big pop for decking Virgil outside. Suddenly Savage runs in, rolls up TED DIBIASE for 1...2..3 to eliminate the Million Dollar Man just like that. Like Ventura said, celebrating early can be fatal and that just proved it.

Dibiase goes berserk in the ring as Ventura says that was a smart move because he just cut it to 3-2 when 4-2 would have been insurmountable if Dibiase dug in or tagged out. Virgil takes off with Dibiase so essentially its 5 on 3 with the Twin Towers, Slick, Haku and Heenan against the Mega Powers and Elizabeth. Haku goes to work on Savage and drops him with a chop, but misses the headbutt. Savage tags out to Hulk and hooks Haku's leg so Hogan could stun him with a kick. Haku drops him with a thrust kick and tags in Bossman. Bossman headbutts Hulk in the back and drops him with a big right hand. Bossman scoop slams Hogan and covers for 1..2...no.  Bossman chops Hulk in the throat and Akeem tags in. Akeem punches away at Hogan and tags in Haku. Haku continues the onslaught with a vertical suplex. He covers for 1..2....no. Haku continues to pound away at Hulk as Savage paces back and forth on the apron. Haku locks in a nerve hold and Hogan fades for 1..2...nooo, he revives and powers out of it. Haku gets a thumb to the eye and tags in Bossman. Bossman sends Hulk off and hits the Bossman Slam. Rather than cover, Bossman just celebrates his move much to Slick's chagrin. Even Ventura admonishes Bossman for not going for the cover. Bossman goes up to the top rope and misses a big splash. Hogan gets the hot tag to Savage who goes nuts on all three heels. Slick trips up Savage and Monsoon says he saw it. All of a sudden for no reason Slick runs over to yell at Elizabeth. Bossman locks Savage in a bearhug as Slick drags Elizabeth up the entrance aisle. Hogan runs over and decks Slick, but Akeem nails him from behind. Bossman joins in and they drag Hogan over to their corner. Bossman handcuffs Hogan to the bottom rope but Earl Hebner completes the count. BIG BOSSMAN has been counted out just over 23 minutes in.

Bossman attacks Hogan with the nightstick with Haku kicking the daylights out of Savage in the ring. Hogan crumples to the floor as Monsoon shouts for the refs to get Bossman out of there. Akeem tags in but Savage rallies with right hands. Bossman waffles Savage with the nightstick as well and gets back in the ring. Hebner tries to pry Bossman off but Akeem makes the mistake of shoving him away. Haku kicks away at Hogan outside as Akeem hits a big splash on Savage. Earl Hebner then disqualifies AKEEM for shoving him just over 25 minutes in.

Technically its down to 2 against 1 with the Twin Towers eliminated but Hogan's handcuffed to the bottom rope and Slick has the key. Slick should do the smart thing and take off with Bossman and Akeem. Naturally Slick sticks around and Haku drops Savage with a back elbow smash. Haku covers for 1...2...no. Slick taunts Hogan with the key but Haku misses an elbow drop. Ventura says Hebner won't let Slick leave but the truth is Slick just wants to taunt Hogan. Haku pounds on Savage but msises a dropkick. Savage goes to make a tag but Hogan's not there. Elizabeth has to tell him that Hulk's handcuffed. Slick hops up on the apron and holds Savage, but Randy ducks the thrust kick and Slick goes flying. Heenan runs over and is clotheslined by Hogan. Elizabeth runs over to get the keys as Ventura hilariously says she's going for his wallet. Monsoon "SHE IS NOT!" Elizabeth gets the key and uncuffs Hogan. The crowd pops as Haku goes up to the top rope, hitting the big splash. He covers for 1..2....noooooo. The crowd explodes as Savage somehow kicks out. Haku hits another thrust kick but Savage spirals into Hogan who gets the hot tag. Hogan hits the punches, big boot, scoop slam and leg drop. Hogan covers for 1...2....3 to win the match. That was a lot of fun but a lot of stupidity on the part of the heels in kayfabe.

After the match Hogan does his hot dogging and grandstanding as Elizabeth tends to the frazzled Savage. Elizabeth tries to tell Hulk that Randy is hurt and Hulk picks her up to celebrate much to Savage's dismay. Savage shoots Hulk a dirty look although they all raise each other's hands. Monsoon says the Mega Powers have won it as we end the show with Savage asking Hogan what's he doing.

Time of match: 30:11

Winners: Hulk Hogan and Randy Savage

This was definitely a transition show with a lot of guys on their way out such as the British Bulldogs, the Killer Bees (Brian Blair was already gone), Ken Patera and even the Conquistadors. Bottom line was the show served its purpose of planting the seeds of dissention with the Mega Powers, double turned Demolition and the Powers of Pain and established The Ultimate Warrior as the next big thing. Bad News Brown wants a piece of Savage and Big Bossman wants Hogan. Jake vs Andre will still be a thing with Duggan and Bravo, good lord. Least we got some feuds still hot as we turn the calendar closer to 1989. The matches themselves were fun to watch with individual stories carrying them. As mentioned earlier, Savage clearly wasn't happy with Hogan picking up Liz and that was certainly not going to be overlooked as the months progressed. We're still four months away from Wrestlemania 5 and some feuds are already locked in for a conclusion while others are up in the air. Up next is a another triple shot. Vince thought it was a good idea to spread his crew out to three different locations on Black Friday. Hogan vs Bossman would headline the Hartford Civic Center in Connecticut, Jake Roberts vs Rick Rude would headline the Pensacola Civic Center in Florida and Andre The Giant vs Randy Savage would headline the Rosemont Horizon in Chicago. I'll see you in Hartford!
